Former couple Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson have finalized their divorce, however, they continue to dispute over their daughter. On May 3, TMZ reported that the ex-couple’s divorce settlement has been reached, and that Turner-Smith and Jackson have used a mediator to formalize a temporary schedule for the shared custody of their daughter.

Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson share one daughter together, whom they named Juno after a Roman goddess, Juno Sospita, as per People Magazine. Juno was born in April 2020 in a home birth at the former couple’s residence in Los Angeles amid the COVID-19 pandemic after Turner-Smith’s almost four-day-long labor, reported People Magazine.

Jodie Turner-Smith and Joshua Jackson separated in September 2023, and Turner-Smith filed for divorce in October of the same year after being married for almost four years, as per Page Six.

According to People Magazine, in separate court documents, Jodie Turner-Smith claimed that while she was authorized to make the final decision on Juno’s schooling, Jackson’s refusal to follow the order is impinging her right to decide which school their daughter will attend.

As per the news outlet, Turner-Smith selected a new school for Juno to attend, a decision which was opposed by Jackson’s legal team, while citing “concerns about drive time.”

Currently, Turner-Smith and Jackson’s divorce settlement includes Jackson paying $2,787 per month in child support, and instead of a monthly spousal support, the former couple has settled on a lump sum payment, as per TMZ.

While the terms of the divorce have been sketched out now, back in February, Turner-Smith claimed that Jackson hadn’t paid child or spousal support since the former couple’s separation. According to E! News, Turner-Smith wrote in court filings:

"During our marriage, I spent a significant amount of time as the primary caretaker to Juno while Josh continued to advance in his acting career," she argued in the filing.
"Josh has been a successful working actor for over thirty years, while I am significantly younger and am still working hard to establish my acting career. During our marriage, Josh historically made more money than me and, at times, significantly more," it read further.

Jodie Turner-Smith on the difficulties of co-parenting

Jodie Turner-Smith, in an interview with Glamour in October 2024, almost a year after filing for her divorce from Jackson, shared her views on co-parenting with her former partner. Turner-Smith, while acknowledging the difficult transition that all parties involved in a divorce have to go through, said:

"It’s an adjustment period for anyone when they split up with someone, because you’re used to being with your child all the time…But nobody hands you a manual. Everyone’s trying to figure it out. Each parent has a different life, and especially if the reason why you’re splitting up is because you have different lives, it’s only further complicated by how you’re going to coparent."

In another conversation with The Cut, Turner-Smith emphasized the importance of love while co-parenting. She said:

"I just have to do everything that I can to set Juno up to win and to peacefully co-parent with someone whom I once loved very, very much. Peace is what’s needed right now. Grace is what’s needed right now. Love, empathy, compassion. I’m trying to be all those things and have faith that when I’m all those things, I will see that reflected back toward me."

Joshua Jackson on fatherhood

Similarly, Jodie Turner-Smith’s ex-husband Joshua Jackson, in a recent interview, acknowledged the difficulty of suddenly becoming a single parent. While he acknowledged the difficulties of co-parenting, he also underlined how important it is for him to be able to fulfill his duties as a father.

In April this year, during his appearance on Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s podcast, Dinner’s on Me, Jakson shared his views on co-parenting. He said:

"Regardless of how messy the divorce is, beautiful the divorce is, easy [or] hard the co-parenting is...I think this generation of dads is understanding, like 'I need to be here. It's gonna be hard, but this is important, and I've got to do this.’ It's my job – shared with my ex-wife – to do everything that we can to nurture you, cultivate you and give you all the tools that you need in life."

Joshua further admitted that he is very close to the five-year-old Juno, also sharing that he finds it too painful to even think about being estranged from her.
