For over two decades, Roger Federer was one of the most popular and beloved athletes in the world. Fans witnessed him move across tennis courts and earn 20 Grand Slams, but in 2022, his on-court era came to an end. Nowadays, Federer leads a much quieter life. He is no longer grasping a racket in front of thousands of spectators. Instead, he is reportedly busy with something much more intimate nowadays—being a full-time father.

"It's an amazing feeling to be called a dad. I take a lot of pride in that title."

Roger Federer is a father of four. And not just four children, but two sets of twins, something that even surprised him.

He and his wife, Mirka, met at the Sydney Olympics in 2000; she was also a tennis player. They fell in love and got married in April 2009. They welcomed twin daughters, Myla and Charlene, in July 2009. Federer was at the prime of his tennis career at the time, but he called their birth “the best day of our lives.” He made sure to be hands-on, even during long seasons and intense travel. He changed diapers, stayed up late, and helped however he could.

Then, five years later in 2014, Federer and Mirka had another surprise—twin boys, Leo and Lenny. Two sets of identical twins. He once said it felt like lightning striking twice.

When Federer announced his retirement in 2022, fans all over the world were emotional. In an interview with GQ in 2024, when asked if he misses tennis, he said,

"Yeah, I get that question a lot, and I don’t miss it. I really don’t. I feel really at peace... I love to go to play tennis when I play with my children.

In a separate interview with People Magazine, he shared just how much joy he would get from his new routine in which he can be present for his children. He said,

"I get to wake up when the kids do and help get them ready. Then I get to connect with the kids again over their sports and homework."

He mentioned being able to engage in a lot of activities with his children along with his wife, Mirka—they would ski together in the winter and play a little tennis or even golf every now and then. Reportedly, they even tried scuba diving on a recent trip. He said,

"They do play tennis, and we ski, and we’re all learning to golf. We recently tried scuba diving."

He also took his girls to concerts that they love,

"But we also saw [Bruce] Springsteen twice, and Elton John. This summer Taylor Swift is coming to Switzerland so of course we'll go to that, and ACDC too."

Roger Federer has never pushed his kids to play tennis seriously. He actually said he was relieved when his daughters didn’t get too into it. He wants all four kids to find their own path, whether that is in sports, art, music, or something totally different.

Myla and Charlene are now teenagers. Roger Federer says they’re into concerts, music, and spending time with friends. The boys, Leo and Lenny, are now ten. Leo has started to show some interest in tennis. Lenny, on the other hand, prefers drawing and reading. Federer says he supports both fully and just wants them to grow up feeling happy and confident.

How fatherhood changed Roger Federer

In a 2022 interview with Today, Roger Federer said that becoming a father changed everything. After his daughters were born, it took time to adjust. He was still winning matches, but home life brought a different kind of pressure. When the boys came along, things got even busier. But he always made time. He learned to balance both roles.

He said fatherhood made him more patient, more present, and more grateful. Whether it was winning a Grand Slam or helping with bedtime, he gave both his full attention. He said,

"It's been a lot of fun being a father and spending time with them. I'm hands-on as much as I can because every day is something new and something different. I don't want to miss anything."

These days, Federer’s name still makes headlines, but for different reasons. No longer just a tennis legend, he’s now simply “Dad.” And for Roger Federer, that’s the title that matters most.
