How many kids does Tia Mowry have? Actress responds to backlash for calling herself a “single mom” after Cory Hardrict divorce

Actress Tia Mowry appears to be embracing motherhood following her divorce from Cory Hardrict in 2023. According to People Magazine, she received backlash after she called herself a single mother. She has two kids, a son and a daughter.

On July 22, she shared a carousel on Instagram, comprising videos with notes on each slide. She captioned the post:

“Different doesn’t mean broken. Family can look many different ways and still be filled with love, respect, and stability.”

In one of the posts, she wrote that she pondered the backlash for calling herself a single mother. She explained that being a single mother didn’t always mean raising kids completely alone without the father involved.

Tia Mowry said she understood how hard it could be for moms who did it all by themselves, but she also wanted people to see that being a single mom could have different meanings in different situations. She also wrote:

“For me, in my household, I am SINGLE. I don't have a partner, so I'm holding it down for everyone at home. I'm the only parent present day to day.”

In another post, she wrote:

“I remember those first nights after my world shifted. I cried. I felt guilt. I felt shame. I asked myself, "Are we still a family?" Looking back now, I know we always were.”

In a subsequent post, Tia Mowry wrote that it was not about being a single mother. The actress mentioned that just because parents weren’t together didn’t mean the family was broken, as it worked differently.

Tia Mowry said separation may not always solve problems

The actress highlighted the importance of parenthood in one of the posts. She wrote that for parents, their children should matter the most, and they must try to compartmentalize their feelings.

Tia Mowry mentioned that the children feel divided when facing the dilemma of picking one parent. According to her, a way to solve this is by following traditions like birthdays and graduation days. In a following post, she wrote:

“No matter if you separate or divorce, the commitment to your kids is forever. When you have kids, you'll always be FAMILY, no matter the changes.”

She also stated:

“I'm not saying divorce or separation is always the answer. But even if parents live together, it doesn't guarantee a healthy home. Kids want their parents to be happy, no matter the situation.”

Tia Mowry shared that when parents are doing well, their kids do well too. She said one can’t help others if they are completely worn out. Raising kids takes support from others, whether they are a single mother or not. She believed it was okay to ask trusted people for help.

She wanted everyone to understand that being a single mother wasn’t just one kind of story, as there were many different experiences. Her message was also for single fathers, LGBTQ+ parents, and any families that didn’t fit the perfect idea society often showed. Tia Mowry encouraged people not to feel guilty or pressured by what others think a family should look like.
