Singer-songwriter Todd Snider passed away on November 15, 2025, at the age of 59, just one month after being arrested and sent to the hospital in Utah. The Americana troubadour, who is known for his wit and raw lyricism, had to postpone his tour after being assaulted and later being admitted to the hospital for his health issues. Weeks before his untimely death, Snider spoke to Rolling Stones in an interview about years of addiction, emotional hardship and physical pain. He was married to Melita Osheowitz, a painter. According to Nashville Scene, Todd Snider met Melita Osheowitz in the late 1990s at a drug and alcohol recovery program, a place both of them were attending to battle their own challenges. Osheowitz was recuperating from an eating disorder, and Snider was receiving treatment for morphine addiction. The High, Lonesome and Then Some hitmaker said that the moment was transformative and stated that he “was pretty certain [he] was in love with her” from the start. He told Sj-r in an interview in January 2012, about the moment he met Osheowitz in the rehab center in 1996:“The first time I ever went was 15 years ago she was in there for an eating disorder, and I was in for morphine addiction. I was pretty certain I was in love with her. I hadn’t really felt that way before.”Their encounter was both unanticipated and predestined for Osheowitz. In the interview, she recalled being aware that romantic relationships in such circumstances were discouraged, but she also remembered feeling an immediate connection:“I don't know what it was. I just felt warm towards him. I just felt a connection. But I really did feel like, 'You're here to do this work, and this is frowned upon here. Sh*t, I'm in trouble!” Osheowitz continued:“I was in a place in my life where I was fighting with myself about what I was gonna do with my artistic wants. I had really been putting a lot of that aside, just 'cause I grew up with the mentality of, 'Make sure you have stability — then if you want to do your art, do your art.' It was really nice to meet somebody who was ... just living exactly how they wanted to be.” They soon started dating, and then she moved in with Todd Snider. They later got married. Their relationship deepened as Snider's career flourished.Todd Snider and Melita Osheowitz: Marriage, Art and InspirationAfter being married in 1999, Todd Snider and Melita Osheowitz remained together for more than ten years. I sat out here by myself and had, like, a dark night of the soul.”Neither Todd Snider nor Melita Osheowitz spoke about the divorce.
