The entertainment world is mourning the loss of Tom Stoppard, the legendary screenwriter and playwright, whose wit and Oscar-winning scripts made him a titan of stage and screen.

On Saturday, Nov 29, Stoppard passed away peacefully at his home in Dorset, surrounded by his loved ones. The United Agents confirmed his death through a statement.

"He will be remembered for his works, for their brilliance and humanity, and for his wit, his irreverence, his generosity of spirit and his profound love of the English language. It was an honour to work with Tom and to know him."

Following the sad news, tributes quickly started pouring in for the celebrated writer. On X/Twitter, Mick Jagger honored Stoppard with a few snippets of the wordsmith and the caption:

"Tom Stoppard was my favourite playwright. He leaves us with a majestic body of intellectual and amusing work. I will always miss him."

British musician Sean Ono Lennon, the son of John Lennon and Yoko Ono, also took to the platform to pay tribute to Stoppard, accompanied by a photo of the late playwright.

"Tom Stoppard R.I.P. An absolute genius."

Writer and producer Piers Morgan left a heartfelt message for Stoppard on social media:

"RIP Sir Tom Stoppard, 88. Oscar-winning literary genius, and one of the world’s greatest dramatists. What a writer! Sad news."

National Theater, on X, said they are "devastated" by the screenwriter's death.

"We are devastated to hear of the death of Tom Stoppard. As a corner stone of the National Theatre for 50 years, Tom’s influence on British theatre has been simply immense."

Hampstead Theatre also expressed their grief, lamenting the passing of the icon.

"Everyone at Hampstead Theatre is devastated by the news of Tom Stoppard’s passing. Tom has been an unwavering friend of our theatre in difficult times, and as we prepare to open our third consecutive Christmas season of a Stoppard play we all feel a personal loss."

Tom Stoppard death: Tributes roll in for the celebrated playwright

Olivier Awards, the most prestigious theater awards in the United Kingdom, have extended their deepest condolences with a poignant post.

"Over a distinguished career spanning six decades, he won three Laurence Olivier Awards and five Tony Awards, and received an Academy Award for his screenplay for Shakespeare in Love. That recognition attests to the remarkable range and enduring impact of his work on both stage and screen."

They also announced an activity to honor Stoppard.

"West End theatres will dim their lights for two minutes at 7pm on Tuesday 2 December in remembrance of renowned playwright Tom Stoppard who has died aged 88."

Nick de Semlyen, the editor of movie magazine Empire, eulogized the late screenwriter on X with an excerpt from Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade (1989).

"RIP the legendary Tom Stoppard. Among his more famous achievements, he radically rewrote Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade (under the pen-name Barry Watson), adding most of the thrilling beats and hilarious gags."

Meanwhile, Gloria Mann, an award-winning actor and producer, expressed her gratitude to Stoppard's literary contributions.

"Rest in Peace dear Sir Tom Stoppard, 88. He was an Oscar-winning literary genius, and one of the world’s greatest dramatists. Thank you for leaving us an extraordinary body of work that will live forever."

Stoppard is survived by his wife, Sabrina Guinness, and his four children: Ed, Will, Oliver, and Barnaby.
