“I hope I never meet her” - Hilaria Baldwin seemingly calls out Amy Schumer in her memoir

Hilaria Baldwin has publicly criticized an unknown celebrity, thought to be comedian Amy Schumer, in her new book, Manual Not Included.

Released on May 6, Manual Not Included chronicles Baldwin's experiences as a mother of 7 children and being in the limelight as the wife of actor Alec Baldwin. In addition to sharing lessons that life has thrown her way, Baldwin has seemingly called out a celebrity in her book.

As per People Magazine, Baldwin has shared her experience of dealing with a celebrity’s negative comments about her and her family, and wrote,

“I don’t need an apology. No matter what, I hope I never meet her”

Media is widely speculating that Baldwin is calling out Amy Schumer because of the public jokes the comedian made at Baldwin and her family’s expense.

Amy Schumer’s Hilaria Baldwin roast, explained

Back in 2023, Amy Schumer roasted Hilaria Baldwin extensively while poking fun at the yoga instructor posing as a Spanish person in her Netflix special, Emergency Contact.

According to USA Today, Schumer adopted a Spanish accent to make fund of Baldwin, who has insisted over the years that she has a close connection with all things Spanish. Schumer kept a Spanish accent throughout the roast, seemingly mimicking Baldwin.

The comedian also went on to poke fun at Hilaria and Alec Baldwin’s children, offering her own comical spin on their children’s Spanish-inspired names.

As per USA Today, Schumer claimed to have met Baldwin who she said introduced herself as being from Spain. Schumer said,

“‘Hilaria from España’ is actually Hillary from Boston. This woman is in no way Spanish. Her parents are not from Spain. No one in her life is from Spain. You’re going, ‘What?!’ Did you think I was just doing a really racist Spanish impression?”

Over the years, Hilaria Baldwin’s claim of being from Spain has prompted intense media speculation and internet memes over the fitness expert’s origins and identity. As per The Cut, a few media profiles mistakenly noted Baldwin as being born in Spain. However, as per the news outlet, Baldwin herself clarified in a now-deleted Instagram video that she was born in Boston.

In 2021, Baldwin also wrote a long post on Instagram explaining her cultural identifications. She wrote,

“My parents raised my brother and me with two cultures, American and Spanish, and I feel a true sense of belonging to both. The way I’ve spoken about myself and my deep connection to two cultures could have been better explained - I should have been more clear and I'm sorry.”

Schumer, however, was unforgiving in her roast of Baldwin and offered another explanation for why Baldwin claims to be from Spain. As per USA Today, Schumer said,

“I think what had happened was she went to Spain. And I’ve been lucky enough to go to Spain. Some of you have been. It’s great, right? Don’t you love it? I loved it, too. But Hillary from Boston … loooved it!…My point is that all evidence points to this woman, since she met her husband, has straight up pretended to be from Spain. And her husband shot someone.”

The last bit was Schumer making a joke out of Alec Baldwin who shot a cinematographer on set while filming with a weapon that accidentally discharged. The actor faced involuntary manslaughter charges which were later dismissed, according to The New York Times.

Hilaria Baldwin on Amy Schumer’s roast

A week after Schumer’s roast began streaming on Netflix, Baldwin referred to being made fun of during an interview with Romper. She said,

“It is a ridiculous thing to be cruel to another person.”

Additionally, as per People Magazine, Baldwin seemingly refers to the incident in her book, where she writes,

“We didn’t engage with her and I guess I am proud of that. It made me mad at the system, but here, in this book, is where I can talk about it. I don’t need to use her name and I don’t want any problems with her, and I would like to be left out of any articles that mention her, because she has nothing to do with me. A total stranger…It gutted me because I couldn’t understand how someone could be so inherently cruel”

As of this writing, Amy Schumer hasn’t responded publicly to Hilaria Baldwin’s book or to the media claims that she is being called out by Baldwin.
