Singer JoJo Siwa seemingly responded to Miley Cyrus’ remark. For context, a clip of Cyrus was shown at the World Pride Event in which she shared her thoughts on Pride Month while taking what many perceived as a light dig at Siwa. As seen in the viral videos from the event, the Flowers singer stood inside a pantry closet and said:

“Oh my God! I have been in there in the sixth grade. Enjoy coming out of the closet if this Pride’s the time for you. It shouldn't be a month, it should be a year, it should be infinite. Alright, I am going back to get some more pretzels and find JoJo Siwa and bring her back out.”

Responding to her comments, Siwa shared an Instagram post on June 12, 2025, in which she shared that she was thrilled to have had a Miley Cyrus-themed party for her fifth birthday, and that feeling of happiness stayed with her even at 22.

She explained that she had admired Cyrus since she was just two years old. Although she felt uncertain about some things for a few days, she eventually began to sort through her thoughts. JoJo Siwa went on:

“I don’t believe what Miley said at world pride was ill-intended, honestly I think it was meant to be a joke, but just not very good one haha. Not what the world, or myself needs to hear anyday of the week. I messaged miley light-heartedly about it and she replied and said ‘All love. Always.’”

She added:

“Honestly the most beautiful thing I’ve learned in the last 5 years is that love is a gorgeous rainbow. Don’t question yourself, don’t second guess yourself, just love. Love love love love love.”

JoJo Siwa said being with Chris Hughes was more than a platonic feeling

In the Instagram post, JoJo Siwa shared that being judged was tough, especially when it came from someone she admired and cared about. Still, she believed that what mattered most was feeling happy and confident in herself.

She reminded others that life comes only once, so it was essential to protect it. Siwa came under public attention following her relationship with TV host Chris Hughes, whom she met on Celebrity Big Brother. Confirming her relationship with The Guardian, Siwa said:

“It’s not platonic anymore, and it’s been a beautiful development, a beautiful connection, and I’m absolutely head over heels for him and he’s the same way.”

Siwa shared various photos from her birthday week in May 2025, many of which featured her posing with Chris Hughes. JoJo Siwa mentioned that her birthday week that year felt incredibly special.

It was filled with unexpected moments, quality time with family, performing, relaxing, lots of laughter, love, joy, and even a few emotional but meaningful tears. She felt it was perfect just the way it was and believed she would remember it for the rest of her life.

Speaking to her co-star Danny Beard on Celebrity Big Brother, JoJo Siwa shared that being part of the show helped her feel more connected to the word "queer," something she had previously avoided.

She used to describe herself as a lesbian, but during her time on the series, she realized that "queer" felt like a better fit for her identity. She found that discovery exciting and embraced the shift, saying it reflected how fluid and personal sexuality could be.
