Television personality Robert Irwin was pleasantly surprised during a recent flight when the conservationist found one of his late father, Australian wildlife icon Steve Irwin’s films while flying.
In an Instagram video, Irwin recorded himself finding Steve’s film, The Crocodile Hunter: Collision Course, under the popular movies section of in-flight entertainment. Irwin could be seen smiling on finding the film, which he proceeded to then watch. In the caption of the video, Irwin wrote,
“When the in-flight movie selection is elite.”
According to People Magazine, the 2002 film, which also starred Irwin’s mother, Terri Irwin, followed the couple’s wildlife adventures just like his parents’ wildlife documentary series, Crocodile Hunter.
Robert Irwin is following in his late father’s footsteps as a wildlife conservationist
Steve Irwin, who gained fans all around the world with his appearances on nature documentary series such as The Crocodile Hunter Diaries and Steve Irwin's Great Escapes passed away in 2006 after being pierced in the chest by a stingray barb while filming.
Robert Irwin, who was very young when his father passed away, was passionately involved in wildlife-related activities from a young age. As per an old report by Perth Now, Irwin and his sister Bindi were home schooled from Australia Zoo, where they were immersed in wildlife.
Irwin’s early interest in nature and animals was apparent as he told the publication,
“Every day is different because, obviously, we live at a zoo. We’re the luckiest people in the world.”
As an adult, Irwin also works at the Australia Zoo, just like his father did. He shares the same passion for the wildlife and often uses his social media channels to raise awareness about the same. In June, Irwin posted about a rescued echidna and wrote,
“This is three-foot the echidna. A rescue who unfortunately lost his foot to a pool skimmer out in the wild. Now he lives a great life with us here @australiazoo”
Continuing, Irwin noted the animal’s unique features and added,
“These guys never fail to amaze me, they are egg-laying mammals with an 18cm tongue!”
Robert Irwin’s messages on environmental conservation
As a passionate conservationist, Robert Irwin also uses his platform to spread awareness. While speaking about the necessity to connect with young people on the issue of conservation, Irwin took to Instagram and wrote,
"At the heart of everything we do is conservation. My message is simple: I want to inspire my generation to realise the urgency for environmental action, and our power to make change for the planet.”

Continuing, Irwin added,
“I hope the story of our charity, Wildlife Warriors can inspire you all to make a difference. I know it seems like an uphill battle, but it’s one we can win if we work together.”
Irwin also teamed up with Prince William, for the London Climate Action Week, in addition to being an ambassador for the future king’s environmental efforts, as per The Mirror. While speaking to the publication about his collaboration with the prince, Irwin said,
“I love being around passionate people, it inspires me. The prince is just that - passionate, curious and thoughtful. I’ve been fortunate enough to share many great discussions about the things we love about the natural world. And it's clear that he has a profound love for wildlife and wild places.”
Robert Irwin is also all set to appear on Dancing With The Stars for the show’s 34th season.
