Robert Irwin and Witney Carson have won the coveted Len Goodman Mirrorball trophy in the 34th instalment of Dancing With The Stars. USA Today reported that the duo earned the highest tabulation of audience and judges' votes. Unlike other competitions, participants don't typically take a "cash prize", raising curiosity about the Mirrorball trophy and its worth.

People magazine reported that the trophy has physically changed over the years and has also become heavier with time. They reported that the production designer, James Yarnell, told the news outlet during the show's first season in 2005 that the first trophy was made of a "brass lamp." He added,

"There’s no such thing as a high-end mirrorball. No matter how much we put into the trophy, how much we spend, it always has a $10 mirrorball on top."

The cost of making the Len Goodman Mirrorball trophy hasn't been officially revealed. However, the Season 29 winner, Kaitlyn Bristowe, had previously revealed that it took DWTS "$10,000" to make it. On a 2023 episode of Jason Tartick’s Trading Secrets podcast, she noted,

"I know how much it cost them to make it. My year that I won was the first year that they revamped it and made it better. And they told me."

A look at the Len Goodman Mirrorball trophy as Robert Irwin and Witney Carson are crowned the winners

Robert Irwin and Witney Carson were crowned the winners of the 32nd season of Dancing With the Stars. This marks the latter's second achievement, after she won the trophy in Season 19 with actor Alfonso Ribeiro. While it is unclear how much went into making the current Len Goodman Mirrorball trophy, the participants don't go unrewarded.

According to Marca, apart from the signing offer, contestants are paid on the show based on how they progress. Naturally, the finalists receive the highest since they make it until the end. DWTS alum Jenna Johnson had previously talked about the financial compensation on The Morning After podcast. She noted,

"Whoever makes it to the finale, you all get paid up until then. And you do get a nice bonus. You're guaranteed for a certain number of weeks. I think there are different contracts, so I can't speak for everybody. But, if you make it all the way to the end, you're getting paid the whole season, which is amazing."

The outlet estimates that Robert and Witney could take home "$360,000" following their win.

From being a "piece of lamp" to becoming one of the most coveted awards in television history, the Len Goodman Mirrorball trophy has come a long way.
