Ariana Grande says her hair is still in the Land of Oz and refuses to come home. The Wicked icon revealed that every time she tries to tone her Glinda-blonde back to brunette, her tresses "spit out the toner" and literally turn themselves back to blonde overnight.

In her latest interview alongside co-star Cynthia Erivo, the pop superstar shared:

"I’m still adjusting and so is my hair. It’s spitting out the toner. Every time I wash it, my hair doesn’t want to be brunette. I’m not method, but my hair is method."

The "raindrops" hitmaker added:

"I’m telling you, I wash my hair one time and I woke up with highlights. I did wake up blonde again. My hair doesn’t want it, it’s not ready yet. My hair is rejecting the toner. I’m not kidding, it’s refusing."

Ariana Grande's hair evolution: From red to blonde to brunette

Through the years, Ariana Grande has sported various hairstyles, from dark red to platinum and more, depending on which era in her career she was in.

From 2010 to 2013, during her stint as Cat Valentine in the teen sitcom Victorious, she made black-and-red her signature shade. However, from late 2013 to 2015, she switched to brown ponytailed locks amid her "Break Free" era.

In 2017, she mostly sported platinum hair before returning to brunette in 2018 for her "thank u, next" music video and Sweetener World Tour. The dark brown stayed on her crowning glory until the pandemic, when she finally gave a glimpse of her natural hair.

From 2021 to 2022, her trademark high ponytail made a comeback, although it was revamped to a look that leaned into the '60s style.

When her Wicked career kick-started in 2022, Ariana Grande dyed her hair blonde and moved to London to film the Broadway adaptation. Until 2024, the "bloodline" songstress experimented on her golden tresses, from buns to curls to braids.

In her 2024 chat with Entertainment Tonight, during the press tour amid Wicked's debut, Ariana Grande explained that dyeing her hair blonde was a willful choice.

"With the first [Wicked] press tour, I wanted to celebrate Glinda in a more on-the-nose way and be an extension of her and extend the time with her through clothes, through the blonde, and through everything. Now I can show up as the actress who played her and play into the darker tones of the movie. It’s fun to play with hair and makeup and fashion.”

However, in 2025, as she attended a plethora of ceremonies and photoshoots, the singer-actress once again opted for dark brunette and ditched her long, lush hair. As seen in her Instagram images in late October, the superstar has returned to her brunette strands.

Meanwhile, Wicked: For Good finally premiered in the U.S. on Nov. 21.
