Wicked: For Good, the final half of the magical musical that was released last year, is making its way to theaters and fans are curious what happens at the end.
In the first film, we saw that Elphaba Thropp (Cynthia Erivo) is labeled as the Wicked Witch of the West and flies somewhere to escape the Land of Oz.
But the beginning of the saga already gave us a hint about the fate of Elphaba. Her best friend, Glinda the Good (Ariana Grande), tells the people of Oz (who don't know that they are friends at the moment until a resident asks) that she is finally dead.
Rest assured, Elphaba is well and alive at the end of the movie and escapes with Fiyero (Jonathan Bailey). Now, Glinda is in charge of the Land of Oz, and it seems like people will be happy forever.
How Wicked: For Good ends?
Now that Elphaba has become the outcast, she is expected to be killed, as people are living in fear of the Wicked Witch of the West. So, Dorothy Gale (Bethany Weaver) throws water on her and she fakes her death.
When everything is in line, we see Fiyero coming in to get Elphaba and both leave Oz for good. We can't really say where both of them have gone but they are likely to start a life somewhere else.
Fiyero ending up with Elphaba in Wicked: For Good doesn't come as a surprise because they had a spark between them.
We see this happening in the first film when they both rescue an imprisoned, frightened lion cub, who would grow to become the Cowardly Lion, and leave him in the forest. However, Fiyero has also changed in Wicked: For Good and he is now the Scarecrow.
As for the main antagonist, the Wonderful Wizard of Oz, played by Jeff Goldblum, leaves the Land of Oz in his hot air balloon, and his sidekick, Madame Morrible (Michelle Yeoh), has been sent to prison by the end of Wicked: For Good.
It was the Wizard who first sought for Elphaba in Wicked (2024) as he came to understand about her powers. People used to think that he had some power but he was a fraud all along and he needed Elphaba to use her powers for his advantage.
Will there be a sequel to Wicked: For Good?
To the fans' dismay, there isn't likely to be a third Wicked film. Director John M. Chu has already spoken about this before, saying that,
"As far as I know, this was always meant to be a two movie experience. A journey over a year of time where everyone can take this era, bring their friends, their family, get to know these women, dress up like them, and be like them, be inspired by them. And, so, yeah, this is the end of an era. But you never know, yeah."
Ariana Grande also shared a message about the story on Instagram recently, where she said that it's
not a "goodbye to anything" and that "these characters will be a part of our hearts always."
