Actress and singer Kristen Bell seems to have encountered a unique situation in her career. On November 19, the Fox network announced that it would start a new podcast series named The Life of Jesus. The podcast, which will have 52 episodes, will explore various aspects of Christ’s teachings.

According to Rolling Stone, the podcast will be hosted by Ainsley Earhardt. The announcement from Fox Network also mentions that as many as 100 actors have signed on to appear in the podcast. This also includes Kristen Bell, who will provide the voice of Mary Magdalene, the official press release mentions.

The news came as a surprise to Kristen Bell because although she had recorded the audio, but it was for a different project. Social media users reacted to the news as many suggested she take legal action. One X user wrote:

“oh kristen sue their a**.”

Another user commented:

“This is a case that will surely 'ring a Bell' with their legal team.”

According to one netizen, the idea of reusing old audio seemed ‘crazy.’ They mentioned:

“Fox using Kristen’s voice without asking is straight-up creepy. Sue the hell out of them Kristen.”

Similarly, one X user shared that it raised legal problems, saying:

“Using someone’s old recordings without consent? That’s a major legal and ethical problem.”

Another social media user opined:

“Damn that’s messy… using her old recordings without consent is wild. Fox really cooked up a problem for themselves here.”

What did Kristen Bell’s representative say about the situation?

Kristen Bell had originally recorded her voice for The Truth and Life Dramatized Audio Bible which came out in 2010. One of the producers who worked on this project is also involved with the new podcast. Other stars like Brian Cox, who worked on the 2010 audio Bible project have been named in the new podcast. Meanwhile, a rep for Cox said:

“Brian recorded audio for a project over a decade ago. He was unaware that the audio would be repurposed for a new podcast series in 2025. Brian only became aware of the podcast today.”

According to her representatives, Kristen Bell has been asked to appear on the podcast. At that time, she learned this old project would be repurposed into a new one. Despite that, her team said she did not give consent for her voice recording to be used in this new project.

According to Rolling Stone, the Fox network has allegedly instructed one of the stars associated with the project not to mention the old audiobook. They said everyone should feel that the work was done recently. Meanwhile, a spokesperson from the network said:

“Gulfstream Studios produced The Life of Jesus Podcast from The Truth and Life Dramatized Audio Bible, which was licensed by FOX News Audio, with full cooperation and participation by all the actors involved.”

As per an official press release from the network, the first 13 episodes of the podcast will be out on November 30. This will be followed by 13 subsequent releases on each day of December 21, February 15, and March 29.
