Avengers: Doomsday is the next chapter in the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). The fifth Avengers film is slated to be released theatrically by Walt Disney on December 18, 2026. It marks the return of Anthony and Joe Russo as the directors, along with a set of actors reprising their superhero counterparts.
However, Chris Evans is one of the MCU actors from the previous phase who is not returning in the upcoming film. Recently, the former Captain America actor spoke about not returning with his team. He said,
"It's sad to not be back with the band."
Chris Evans talks about not returning in Avengers: Doomsday
Chris Evans recently spoke to Screen Rant about not returning as Captain America in the upcoming film Avengers: Doomsday. When the interviewer stated that he might have been asked about it multiple times, the actor replied:
"You know what? It hasn't really happened. You might be the first."
Evans then said that he has been in touch with Robert Downey Jr. and the Russo brothers, who are returning to the MCU. He said,
"Yeah, I talk to them all the time. It's where Pedro is right now. I mean, it's sad to be away. It's sad to not be back with the band, but I'm sure they're doing something incredible, and I'm sure it's going to be that much harder when it comes out and you feel like you weren't invited to the party."
His comments make it clear that the actor is missing being a part of the MCU. But it's also clear that his time as Captain America might be over.
Avengers: Doomsday is directed by the Russos, who have also produced it with Kevin Feige. Stephen McFeely and Michael Waldron are the writers. The film will feature RDJ as the antagonist, Doctor Doom. Previously in the MCU, he portrayed Tony Stark/Iron Man, who died in Endgame as he tried to stop Thanos. Here is a list of its cast members:
- Chris Hemsworth as Thor
- Anthony Mackie as Sam Wilson, aka Captain America
- Sebastian Stan as Bucky Barnes aka Winter Soldier
- Paul Rudd as Scott Lang aka Ant-Man
- Vanessa Kirby as Sue Storm, aka Invisible Woman
- Tom Hiddleston as Loki
- Ian McKellen as Erik Lehnsherr aka Magneto
- Pedro Pascal as Reed Richards aka Mister Fantastic
The film's release date has gone through many changes. Its original date, May 2, 2025, was changed due to the Hollywood strikes. Avengers: Doomsday will release on December 18, 2026.
