James Gunn's DCU is the next most exciting thing in cinema. This is because the director is all set to get behind some of the biggest and most anticipated projects from the studio- both big and small- as the superhero universe expands and makes way for newer heroes and villains.

Although James Gunn has teased all the exciting upcoming adaptations lined up, the man behind Superman also let fans in on the fact that the studio has yet to announce a very important project that he calls his 'favorite.' Although he did not disclose what it was, it's surely a significant one if it's that close to the director's heart.

As he spoke at a press conference for DC in February 2025, Gunn said:

“I mean, life is complicated. There’s always little things. Like I wish I did that differently. I wish I asked David (Corenswet) to do that take differently, it’s just like little things. There’s writers that we put on projects that I wish we didn’t, but overall, I feel just so lucky. I mean, the fact that, Ana (Nogueira) was on Supergirl, came out with this great script. The fact that there’s another…my favorite project nobody even knows about yet. It’s been my favorite project for a few months. Nobody even knows it."

He then added more details on how a team of thirteen people is working on DC's new era, as he said:

“We’re an organization of basically 13 people that’s able to produce all this material and have it go and have it all be high quality. We’re going to make mistakes. Some things are going to be better than others… So we’re doing everything we can to make everything as good as possible. And I feel remarkably fortunate.”

Upcoming DCU projects by James Gunn

DCU has a wonderful lineup of projects as the production house comes under James Gunn's creative control and is all set to premiere various projects.

The first phase, known as Gods and Monsters, will kick off with the release of David Corenswet's Superman and will be followed by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, Clayface, and The Authority. Teaming up with Peter Safran, it's clear that Gunn's DC Universe will be one that will bring in a lot of surprises to fans as it continues to brew under the director's belt.

Safran also opened up on the studio's future and how much they have accomplished as he said:

“Two years ago.....I think we would have been surprised that we could accomplish that much. Particularly with the five months of pencils down in our first year, they were always really problematic for everybody. So I think we feel pretty good (about the future).”
