Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s final vacation ended in tragedy. The actor, best known for playing Theo Huxtable on The Cosby Show, died while on a family trip to Costa Rica. On Tuesday, July 22, Costa Rica’s Judicial Investigation Agency confirmed the results of his autopsy.
Warner died from accidental asphyxiation by submersion, in other words, he drowned.
According to a source who spoke to People Magazine, the outing began as a simple activity with loved ones, but the sea turned dangerous. Warner was swept away by a current. Bystanders acted quickly, pulling him from the water and calling for help.
Medical teams from the Costa Rican Red Cross responded to the emergency, trying to resuscitate him on shore. The Investigation Agency said in a statement,
“The victim appears to have entered the sea and was apparently swept away by a current. The man was rescued by bystanders and taken to shore, where he received treatment… However, he was declared lifeless at the scene.”
