A new report claims Doug Martin leapt from rehab facility window and clashed with police months before his death at 36

Douglas Matthewbaran Martin, famous by the name Doug Martin, was reportedly involved in a troubling incident that took place in a rehab facility. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Martin allegedly jumped from a second-floor window of a rehab facility and got into a dispute with police that later turned physical.

According to the outlet, Martin:

"Was placed on an involuntary psychiatric hold after he experienced substance-induced psychosis and struggled with sheriff’s deputies at a Castro Valley drug rehabilitation center"

After Martin entered Tranquility Rehab Center, situated in Castro Valley, tests showed he had cocaine and meth in his system.

The incident of him jumping from the second floor reportedly took place on the morning of August 13. According to the outlet, deputies said Doug Martin seemed scared and confused after jumping from a second-floor window. When they tried to calm him, a struggle broke out, which resulted in taking him to a hospital for a mental health check.

According to TMZ:

"Officers allegedly found three bags of cocaine and a 12-inch chef’s knife on Martin at the time."

Doug Martin passed away while in the custody of Oakland police on October 18 at the age of 36.


Doug Martin's family releases a statement surrounding his mental health

While Martin's mental health has been a question after his death, his family also recently released a statement regarding the same, which was reported by the San Francisco Chronicle. The family statement read:

"Doug battled mental health challenges that profoundly impacted his personal and professional life. Ultimately, mental illness proved to be the one opponent from which Doug could not run"

On October 20, the Oakland Police Department released a statement giving more details about what happened. Sharing the statement on Facebook, they wrote:

"Prior to his death, Martin was involved in a break-in at a residence in Oakland. While responding officers were attempting to detain him, a brief struggle occurred. After being taken into custody, Martin became unresponsive."

As per the police, Martin was taken to the hospital and despite paramedics’ efforts, he couldn't survive. Authorities have not revealed an official cause of death for Doug Martin, keeping other details confidential.
