"Nobody deserved to have me be that angry": Kody Brown opens up about his past behavior with ex-wife Janelle

Kody Brown is embarking on an apology tour for his sister wives. In the next episode of the TLC show, he goes to North Carolina to see his former wife, Janelle Brown. The trip is part of his initiative to address the consequences of the disintegration of his plural family.

During one of the latest episodes, Kody Brown wrote to his current wife, Robyn, that he wanted to apologize to his past wives: Meri, Janelle, and Christine. He claimed he was responsible for how things turned out and wanted to admit he contributed to the family's breakdown.

PEOPLE magazine shared an exclusive clip of the episode of December 7, 2025. The video reveals Kody Brown and Janelle sitting together as they have a heart-to-heart talk. It is a preliminary step in trying to deal with his previous actions.

Kody Brown addresses his anger and behavior

During the meeting, Kody Brown opens the conversation by taking responsibility for his actions.

He tells Janelle, “I just wanted to come and say that I apologize.”

He explains that he has several things he wants to apologize for and wants to start by addressing his anger:

“I want to apologize for just being so angry and so bitter over the family breakup, and just nobody deserved to have me be that angry.”

He admits that his emotions affected everyone involved and that his behavior was not fair to the family.

Janelle listens and responds honestly. She explains that toward the end of their marriage, Kody Brown no longer felt familiar to her.

“I kept thinking I don’t know who this guy is.” She adds, “This is not the guy that I was married to forever.”

Her response shows how distant their relationship had become.

Janelle reflects on the family and their marriage

In a confessional, Janelle expands on her feelings.

She says, “The person I would see speaking all these things publicly, I’m like, ‘I don’t know who that guy is.’ I still don’t recognize him.”

She explains that Kody Brown now lives a different life, separate from the one they once shared.

Janelle adds that while she recognizes parts of him from the past, the overall person feels unfamiliar.

“It’s like somebody I’ve seen that I used to know a long time ago.”

She explains that both of them have changed and moved on in different ways.

Back in their conversation, Janelle talks about the future she once imagined.

“I never saw this coming in a million years.”

She explains that when the family fell apart, she mourned the loss of the idea they had worked toward.

“We had this whole ideal of how it was going to be.”
