James Gunn has overhauled the DC Universe ever since he took over DC Studios back in 2022. The first installment of this series, Superman (which Gunn directed), has kick-started the new DC world. It will be followed by several films and television series in the coming months and years.

Recently, Gunn revealed that he will be directing more DCU films in the future beyond Superman. He said,

"There is one big story being told"

Let’s take a closer look at his comment and the details surrounding this news, something that’s sure to excite DC fans hoping to see Gunn helm more projects.

James Gunn will direct more films in the DCU

James Gunn recently spoke at a press conference where he revealed that he would want to direct more films in the DCU. He said,

“On the one hand, everything is gonna be okay to watch by itself, but also there’s a bigger story being told that involves, say, Salvation. And so that story involves Rick Flag, it involves Lex & Superman. So there’s those movies that I’m gonna be directing. That’s the plan right now, at least. I may get so f–king tired that I can’t do it, because I’m pretty tired. But we’ll see. But there’s a plan that I’m gonna do. You know, it’s a couple more, at least.”

Gunn spoke about the forthcoming film Man of Tomorrow and said that he had had the idea for quite some time. He added,

“Honestly, I think I know the next few I’m directing. I already know. It’s a part of the plan of the DCU. There is one big story."

Man of Tomorrow is technically a sequel to Superman. However, James Gunn has refuted this claim. He said,

"I like my movies to be different. Guardians 1 is not the same as Guardians 3. They're different. And Man of Tomorrow will not be the same as Superman. And it is Lex's story too, so it's the two of them. That colors it in a totally different way."

Superman kick-started the DCU's Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, which has a slate of films that will be coming in the future. This includes Supergirl (2026), Clayface (2026), Man of Tomorrow (2027), and The Brave and the Bold (TBA), among others. Their forthcoming television shows include Creature Commandos, Lanterns, Paradise Lost, and Mister Miracle, among several others.
