Amazon MGM Studios dropped the first official trailer for Project Hail Mary, and Ryan Gosling is seen heading to space in a mysterious turn of events. The three-minute clip unfolds with Gosling's character coming to his senses with medical equipment around him, and it seems that he is stuck inside a spacecraft capsule.
The trailer kicks off with a female voice asking him to identify himself, to which the reply comes:
"Ryland Grace. I just woke up from a coma."
As Ryland continues to speak, it is revealed that he is 'several light years' away from where he stays, and he is 'not an astronaut.' The trailer of Project Hail Mary, scheduled for a 2026 release, opens up with much suspense as the mystery surrounding Gosling's space chronicles starts to build up. Project Hail Mary trailer is out, and Ryan Gosling seems to be stuck in a mysterious space mission
The upcoming sci-fi film Project Hail Mary has been adapted from Andy Weir's 2021 novel, going by the same name. The story centers on a scientist/teacher named Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) who gets recruited on a dangerous mission to explore Tau Ceti, a solar system, which is '11.9 light years away' from ours.
The project is led by a senior scientist, Eva Stratt (played by Sandra Hüller). In the latest trailer of Project Hail Mary, her character mentions the purpose of the mission to Ryland, saying:
"The sun is dying. You are the only scientist who might know what this is."
As the newest clip reveals, the Earth's sun is running out of fuel, and all the other stars have been affected by their neighbors. So far, only one sun is surviving - the one that forms the Tau Ceti solar system. The project has thus been designed to save the world, which seems to be 'a long shot,' hence the name, 'Project Hail Mary'.
How will "a teacher from Grover Cleveland Middle" prepare himself for a mission to save the world? How will he master zero gravity in such a short time? How does he survive in such unthinkable and extra-terrestrial conditions confined in a spaceship?
All the answers lie on the other end of Project Hail Mary. The official trailer reveals Ryland as the only survivor on the mission as he struggles to find his way around in space. In the closing minutes of the clip, Gosling's character is seen 'approaching' (a computerized voice says) an enormous and unidentified interstellar object, and he notices the movement of an (alien) figure. His lines add more mystery to the plot:
"So, I met an alien. He's kinda growing on me. Atleast he's not growing in me, you know? Which was a concern for a little while."
Project Hail Mary is helmed by Phil Lord alongside Christopher Miller in association with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. The movie is set for a theatrical premiere in the United States on March 20, 2026, and Amazon MGM Studios currently holds distribution rights in the country.
