Singer Sean Kingston was recently convicted of committing a scamming fraud, following which he was given a 3.5-year prison sentence. However, almost 13 days after the judge’s declaration, the singer decided to file an appeal to overturn the sentence. On August 28, he submitted his request in a federal court through his legal representative, Zeljka Bozanic.

According to Allhiphop, his convictions were on the grounds of identity theft, wire fraud, and securities fraud. Kingston allegedly ran a scheme through which he collected expensive goods and vehicles without proper documents. Not just that, he also didn’t disclose his actual financial status while carrying out the activities.

In May 2024, Sean Kingston and his mother were apprehended by the police in Fort Lauderdale following a raid in their mansion. Although they claimed that they paid for the items they purchased, the sellers reportedly never received the money.

According to a report by CBS News Miami, Sean Kingston’s sister, Kanema Morris, was also present during the trial, and she asked the judge to be lenient on him. According to her:

“Sean has played a major role in a lot of people‘s life and he is a blessing and he will continue to be that.”

She made her request after the government initially wanted to sentence him to five years of prison. However, Kingston’s mother received a five-year sentence. Addressing the press, Morris said:

“I just want to say change won’t break our spirit. We stand in faith. I will be screaming, ‘Free my family,’ until they are home where they belong. God is the greatest. We are blessed.”

What did Zeljka Bozanic and Marc Anton say about Sean Kingston?

According to a report by NBC South Florida, the fraud amount totals up to $1 million. During the trial, Sean Kingston apologised to the judge, saying he had learnt from his actions and wanted his apology to be accepted in the court. At the time, Zeljka Bozanic told the reporters:

“I think the judge saw through the fact that this is not a typical fraud that you see in other cases and most of restitution was paid back. Most of the people were paid back and I think that the fact that Sean has done so much stuff for other people in his life and the fact is he is a good person and helped others. I think that also helped in the sentencing.”

Bozanic said that Sean Kingston was unaware of his bank balance. He liked buying expensive things and believed the payments would go through, but sometimes they didn’t. Some bills were still unpaid, though most had already been covered.

Furthermore, Marc Anton, Assistant US Attorney, called out Kingston, saying:

“He’s a 35-year-old man and led a celebrity lifestyle…And can no longer afford that today. He is a thief through and through.”

According to the Associated Press, Anton said that Sean Kingston didn’t like paying people and used his fame to cheat them. He called him a thief and a trickster.
