Darth Vader, the Star Wars character, had to kiss goodbye to one of his weapons. As per reports, Vader’s lightsaber, the energy sword used in films like Return of the Jedi and The Empire Strikes Back, was sold for $3,654,000 during an auction held in Los Angeles.

Social media users seemed amazed by the news, as one user commented on X:

“That's a huge amount for Vader's lightsaber! Star Wars fans really love their collectibles.”

Others did not seem too happy with the news, especially the heavy amount for the item. One netizen commented:

“bro for $3.65M i better get force powers too, not just a glorified flashlight.”

A second user chimed in, saying:

“Imagine paying $3.65 million for a movie prop.”

However, one claimed that the amount was worth it, considering it was Darth Vader’s. They mentioned:

“$3.65M for a lightsaber—worth every penny for the legend.”

Sharing similar sentiments about Dark Vader’s prop, a netizen shared:

“Incredible piece of history. Sounds like a bargain. I wonder how many exist.”

A social media user joked about the buyer, saying:

“Wondering how many times is he gonna use it and for what.”

Earlier in July, The Hollywood Reporter reported the news of the auction. According to Brandon Alinger from Propstore, the real lightsaber props from the first Star Wars movies were rare, and the company was proud to include one in their September 2025 auction. He explained that it was a special item that belonged in the best collections.

What did David Prowse say about playing Darth Vader in Star Wars?

In the original trilogy, actor David Prowse plays Darth Vader. During a 2012 interview with Rebel Force Radio, he said that he enjoyed working on the first three Star Wars movies but didn’t like the next three. However, he said he would have loved to have been involved if something was happening in the Star Wars world. He mentioned:

“I think myself number one, how lucky I was to have been cast as Darth Vader in Star Wars. I'm now regarded as the ultimate screen villain of all time which is a wonderful title for any actor to have like, you know, and it's a phenomenal. There's no science of it stopping.”

David Prowse said that he used to talk with George Lucas about Darth Vader’s voice. George told him that they would re-record his lines in the studio after filming. Prowse thought he would be the one to do it, but in the end, the team went back to America to finish the movie because the special effects they needed couldn’t be done in the UK. The actor said:

“When they were in America suddenly realized, you know, that they had to do the overdubbing of Darth Vader's voice or at least my voice.”

He said that they then hired voiceover stars to do the job. David Prowse died in 2020 at 85.
