The engagement between Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce was officially announced yesterday, August 26. However, according to Kelce's father, Ed Kelce, the proposal happened earlier than fans thought.

Ed Kelce revealed in a recent interview that his son had proposed to the pop singer two weeks before the public announcement. This has sparked a wave of reactions online. For some netizens, the delayed engagement reveal came as a surprise.

One such fan exclaimed: "That's messed up, we deserved to know right away"

Ed Kelce spoke to ABC News 5 Cleveland, where he explained that the Kansas City Chiefs tight end originally wanted to wait. However, he eventually decided to propose in a private setting at his home in Missouri.

According to Ed, Travis Kelce told Taylor Swift they should step outside for a glass of wine before dinner, and it was in the garden where he got down on one knee. Then, the couple made FaceTime calls to both of their families to share the news.

Ed recalled the call, stating:

"I got a FaceTime call from them, and as soon as I saw the FaceTime, I saw it was Travis, and then I saw Taylor there with him, I knew what they were going to say, and they, you know, let us know.:

Ed Kelce also explained that the timing of the announcement was not up to his son. When he asked Travis when they planned to go public, the tight end's response was:

"Whenever Taylor says so."
