On December 31, Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper teamed up on CNN’s New Year’s Eve Live. As they conversed, Cooper said he felt weird about sleeping on the bed Cohen gave him. The latter joked that he only gave the frame and not the mattress. Cohen said:

“I thought it made us closer, like better brothers.”

Cooper mentioned that this wasn’t Heated Rivalry, which seemingly excited Andy Cohen. The latter wondered which characters they would be from the series, and he himself answered:

“Of the two of us, you’re Ilya and I’m Shane.”

Social media users reacted to this light-hearted interaction between them. One X user commented:

““WHAT?” They are both Shane be so for real.”

Another X user wrote:

“I just love, love these two. In the most lovable way, they remind me of Abbot and Costello. They mesh sooo well together.”

A netizen seemed surprised that Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper were allowed to drink. They reacted:

“Wait is that this year? They let them drink again???? That’s hands down the best news of 2025.”

One online commentator quipped:

“My favorite new years tradition is watching these two.”

An X user compared Cooper with Shane, writing:

“Anderson Cooper is so Shane. They must be drunk if they couldn’t clock that.”

In similar lines, another netizen commented:

“I'm sorry but they're both Shane Hollanders for me LOL. Glad they seem to watch TV Show of 2025 though.”

Andy Cohen and Anderson Cooper had a fun time with each other’s puppets

During the segment at Times Square, Andy Cohen mentioned that thousands of people braved the cold to be there. Despite that, they commented that it wasn’t as crowded as in previous years. They then went ahead with taking a tequila shot. Cohen mistakenly called it “transition” and not “tradition.” This caught Anderson Cooper by surprise, and he asked Cohen to clarify, who said:

“Anderson and I are transitioning as the night goes on into drunkards.”

They then took out their puppets. Commenting on Cooper’s puppet, Cohen said:

“You look very gummy. You look like you have no teeth. Like you lost your teeth. My hand is all the way in. It's not. It's ironic because we go to the same dentist, right? Oh, yes. My hand is all the way in. It's ironic because we go to the same dentist, right? going to do. We are going to take turns answering questions about each other as each other.”

Andy Cohen then asked Cooper’s puppet about his favorite part of spending New Year’s Eve with Andy. Making Cooper’s puppet move, Cohen answered that his favorite part was Andy running the show. Meanwhile, Anderson Cooper struggled with Cohen’s puppet, which he had on his right hand. Cohen commented:

“The funny thing is, he was bragging that he went to puppetry school when he was a kid. What was your brag? That you went to puppetry school. Huh?”

Anderson Cooper said he was joking, and he never went to puppetry school. He said he was surprised that Andy Cohen would believe his lie.
