Rapper Kiari Kendrell Cephus, also known as Offset, was a guest on the October 7 episode of the Baby, This is Keke Palmer podcast. During the conversation, he touched upon various moments of his life, including the rumor that he fell out with rapper Quavo due to an alleged affair with Saweetie. Towards the end of the conversation, Palmer asked if whatever happened between him and Saweetie was true or not, and Kiari replied in the negative. He said it was a rumor, and his split with Quavo was beyond that. Offset said:
“I think people was trying to tear my situation down in that situation.”
Palmer asked if he thought it was a business propaganda plot against them, to which the rapper agreed. He added:
“We men, so we don't play those games. We don't even know how to do that. And so it was just like that was a weird thing though. That was that was kind of crazy for me.”
Offset was a member of the hip-hop group Migos, which consisted of himself, Quavo, and Takeoff. The group disbanded in 2023. When Keke Palmer asked when the group started to fall apart, Kiari said:
“I think things on the business side wasn't turning to my favor. You know, I got kids and family and I'm just getting older and more smart. Pay more attention to my money, my finances, and felt like I wanted a bigger piece, not from them, but from the business.”
Offset on not going backward and Migos’ impact
Speaking about the Migos split, Offset explained that as he grew as an artist, he decided to go solo because he was having problems with how things were being handled in the business. It wasn’t about fighting with his group members, but he felt like he couldn’t make the changes he wanted.
Hence, he said he chose to work on his own, even though he didn’t feel much support at first. He said it was a tough time for both him and his fans, but it was a choice he needed to make for himself. Keke Palmer asked if there was a time when he thought he could go back to Migos, and Offset replied:
“I don't want to go backwards. And if I did, it would be on my time. You know what I'm saying? Cuz I'm trying to like reach those heights as Migos did as a solo act. And I feel like it's confusing.”
He went on:
“When you dib and dab, when you go back when you go back and forth with it. And I feel like I love my creative freedom.”
Offset touched upon how Migos didn’t always get the credit they deserved. He remembered how, when they first started, some people didn’t take their music seriously and called it simple.
As they continued working, artists like Katy Perry began incorporating their style into their songs. He said he wasn’t upset about not always getting recognition because he knew the impact they had.
