Julianne Hough recently spoke about an Oscars red carpet interview that she now calls one of the most awkward experiences of her career. The Dancing with the Stars cohost, 37, admitted the exchange left her embarrassed but also gave her a new outlook on handling such moments.
The incident happened at the 2025 Oscars in March, where Hough was working as a correspondent. She had a brief interaction with actor Timothée Chalamet, who was nominated for Best Actor that night. Their conversation soon went viral online as many fans called it “cringe.”
Hough revisited the moment on the Chicks in the Office podcast on September 5. She looked back on the exchange with honesty and humor while explaining why she still sees value in what happened.

During her interview with Chalamet, Hough asked him, “Do you have any, like, dance moves that you go to? Like, a go-to?”
The question seemed to confuse the actor at first.
After a short pause, he replied, “Um, do you?”
Hough answered that she did have a go-to move. She showed him “a little body roll, body roll action” while describing how it works. Chalamet responded with a short line, saying, “Okay, facts, fair.” After that, the conversation ended quickly.
Hough later admitted she felt uncomfortable about how the moment came across.
On the podcast she said, “The most cringe moment of my life, thank you.” She laughed as she remembered how awkward it felt to her at the time.
How does Julianne Hough view the moment now?

Despite calling it cringe, Hough said she does not regret asking the question.
She told the podcast hosts, “Oh my gosh, that truly, that was horrible. But you know what? Whatever. It was something that people talked about.”
She added that she prefers to see it as a lesson in being authentic, even if it does not go smoothly.
“I always say, ‘You know what? Be cringe. You’re at least putting yourself out there. Whatever,’” she explained.
The hosts also defended her approach. They said that while some fans found the question strange, it made sense because Hough is a dancer. They noted it was not out of place for her to bring up dance moves when speaking with a star on the red carpet.
