Lorrie Morgan lost her husband, Randy White, to mouth cancer. The 72-year-old passed away on June 1, more than a year after the country music icon announced her late husband’s diagnosis. After White died during the early hours of Sunday, Morgan penned a Facebook post:

“Randy has been my partner and my rock for 17 years. Our big, wonderful family and I are devastated at the loss of this truly kind and incredible man. I was blessed by his love. Ran-Ran, I will love and miss you forever.”

Randy White and Lorrie Morgan married in September 2010, almost three years after the singer’s divorce from Sammy Kershaw. The former country music duo behind I Finally Found Someone started their relationship in 2000, as per Who’s Dated Who. Following a year of dating, they tied the knot in 2001.

Lorrie Morgan and Sammy Kershaw had a troubled marriage. According to the National Enquirer, after being married for two years, the pair had an ugly fight that turned physical, leading to both filing for restraining orders against one another. Eventually, the duo made up until their eventual divorce in 2007.

Lorrie Morgan and Sammy Kershaw filed for restraining orders after a fight over the former’s son

In November 2003, the Show Me How singer filed for divorce after a fight with her then-husband, according to the National Enquirer. The outlet revealed that the reason behind their fallout was Lorrie Morgan’s son Jesse Whitley, who reportedly went hunting at Kershaw’s Whites Creek, Tennessee, with his friends.

At the time, Rose Palermo, Sammy’s friend and ex-lawyer, said:

“Sammy was upset that the teens went hunting on his property without adult supervision. He was also upset because the gunshots scared his dog, Honey, who then went missing.”

The argument turned physical, as alleged by Lorrie Morgan in her complaint. At the same time, Sammy Kershaw made similar accusations against his then-spouse. Finally, both singers got restraining orders against one another.

After the divorce filing and restraining orders, the couple made up. During an appearance on Larry King Live in 2004, Lorrie Morgan talked about her relationship with Sammy. When the host asked her about the restraining orders, she called them “a big mix-up.” She said:

“Because Sammy and I, you know, it's really hard, as you know, to be in the public life, and have a private life. And we had so many people that were for us, but yet so many people that were against us. And they didn't want to see us succeed.”

She further told Larry King:

“And they played us against each other. And we fell for it. And we took it out on each other. And one fight led to another fight, and it became extremely, extremely violent. I mean, it was -- it was very uncalled for. And the first thing we did was file a restraining order. Instead of talking about it, we were kept away from each other. So we couldn't even talk about it.”

Lorrie Morgan addressed Sammy Kershaw as her soulmate and best friend and revealed:

“I think when we got back together, which we both kind of initiated when I was going to get my stuff out of the house, and it hit us that, you know, this is something we worked for a long time.”

Morgan added:

“And a very good friend of ours, our priest, told us, what are you going to do? Start over? Get married again? And then come to the same problems in the next marriage? You've got to make it work. If you love each other, make it work.”

After six years of staying together, Lorrie filed for divorce in October 2007, citing “irreconcilable reasons.” In a 2016 interview with Parade, Morgan defined divorce as “one of the hardest things” she experienced in her life. She told the outlet:

“My last divorce with Sammy Kershaw was one of the hardest things I ever experienced in my life. I still loved Sammy, and I didn’t know how to let go. And so I kept trying to do it slowly and thinking maybe something would change, but it never did…The song [Slow] still reminds me of how I had to let go slow….It wasn’t a whim when we divorced. It was a very painstakingly, heartfelt— just a terrible time in my life.”

The time was also financially troubling for Sammy Kershaw and Lorrie Morgan. Both singers had filed for bankruptcy (at different times) in 2007 and 2008. HotChickens.com, a restaurant the ex-couple opened together, also shuttered after some time and was reportedly a contributing factor in Kershaw’s bankruptcy filing.

He later went on to run for lieutenant governor of Louisiana but didn’t find much success. Morgan, on the other hand, married Randy White, who passed away recently due to cancer.
