R&B singer Mario Dewar Barrett seemingly encountered an unfortunate incident during his recent show in Toronto. As seen in a video posted on X by user ‘@celebriD,’ the singer was performing when a fan touched his privates, almost causing him to fall off the edge of the stage. Mario moved the person’s hand and continued singing. Whether the alleged person was a man or a woman cannot be confirmed at the time of writing.

The singer is currently on his Nothing But Us tour, which started on November 13 and will continue till December 9. He released his new album, Mood Swings, earlier this month. Prior to the release, he shared an Instagram post in October 2025, writing:

“MY EP #moodswings is on the way!! I NEEED EVERYBODY TO #moodswings if you want me to tease the next single and put the EP out before tour starts! LESSSSS GOOOOOOOO.”

On November 20, Mario sat down for an interview with THE SHADE ROOM. During the conversation, the host mentioned that his 2004 song "Let Me Love You" was on the Billboard Hot 100 for 9 weeks. Reflecting on that, the singer said:

“It's still like one of my highest streaming songs. I mean, compared to like even new songs that come out, they get streamed like almost a million times every two days.”

However, he felt his song Just a Friend 2002 was more successful. According to Mario:

“That one's bigger for sure. And I think it's just I was more mature and it's just when you talk about love, it's just such a universal concept, man. It's just a great song. It's a blessing to have one of those in your catalog.”

What did Mario say about cutting his braids?

Elsewhere in the interview, Mario said he regretted cutting his braids. However, he said it takes two to three years for his hair to grow, but despite that, he cut it down. He told the interviewer:

“If you would have seen me with the braids like during that time, I would have changed. I would have did a whole different type of vibe to it.”

He shared that he would have switched from loose, sporty clothes to something more grown-up while still talking the same way and keeping his braids. He joked that girls still wanted to braid his hair, but he told them he couldn’t anymore and that they could just brush it instead. According to him:

“It's not much more guys can do except change our swag of like get tattoos, change their hair, change the clothes.”

Mario went on to say:

“I think the way we communicate through our music to our fans, the way we dress, how we move, our behavior, like those type of things. Show maturity.”

Mario opined that music should be kept separate from the person who sings or writes it. He considered this craft a fantasy that comes with creativity. He said artists should be allowed to be multi-dimensional and not just “regular humans.” He opined that musicians create everything out of nothingness.
