Actor Jonathan Majors and rapper NLE Choppa were among the guests on Kirk Franklin’s Den of Kings podcast on October 10. The conversation touched on various topics like healing, space, grief, and other issues.

At a point during the conversation, Choppa said he has a problem with a certain belief in Christianity. According to him:

“In Christianity, it's a thing where people praise the son more than they praise the father. And that's what I don't like. Because if we are man made in the likeness, Jesus is our brother. You get what I'm saying? Why would I drop down and praise my brother instead of praising my father? And that goes back to honoring your parents.”

Majors cut in and asked if Choppa was familiar with the Bible. The rapper replied that he had not only read but listened to the Bible. Majors then said:

“I would say read it again.”

On October 14, NLE Choppa shared an X post, where he mentioned an excerpt with various titles, one of which was “Matthew 12:49-50 (NIV).” The post was captioned:

“READ IT AGAIN.”

The section mentioned how a real family was not just about being related by blood but about people who followed God’s wishes. It said that those who did God’s will were like brothers, sisters, and mothers to each other.

The next section, titled “John 20:17 (NIV),” said that Jesus told someone not to hold on to him because he had not yet gone up to God. He asked them to go and tell his followers that he was going to his Father, who was also their Father and God. It reads:

“After His resurrection, He explicitly calls the disciples brothers for the first time, marking their new status as co-heirs and members of God's family.”

The third section in NLE Choppa’s post, titled “Hebrews 2:11 (NIV),” says:

“Both the one who makes people holy and those who are made holy are of the same family. So Jesus is not ashamed to call them brothers and sisters. Together, these verses reveal that Jesus wasn't just speaking metaphorically He was announcing a new spiritual reality: through Him, believers share in His relationship with the Father.”

What did NLE Choppa say about Black men and masculinity in the podcast?

As the conversation continued, Kirk Franklin asked if there might be another kind of healing that people don’t talk about much, like how Black men sometimes struggle to show or receive affection because they weren’t taught how to express it. Jay Barnett, who was also a guest on the podcast, shared his thoughts on masculinity and Black men.

NLE Choppa compared the situation to a war. Barnett asked if it was the war to kill Black masculinity, and Choppa said:

“It's the war toward a black man, black masculinity. But a lot of people got to understand black man also had feminine too. feminine on the fifth dimensional level with receiving, stillness, trust, and just allowing things to happen and flow within the life and just, you know, the balance.”

NLE Choppa said that many Black men were not balanced because they focused too much on action and strength instead of also learning calmness, trust, and patience.
