Joshua Jackson and Jodie Turner-Smith are engaged in yet another legal battle after the former filed a motion on Friday, May 30, 2025.
The Dr. Odyssey star is seeking an “emergency custody order modification,” per People, while alleging that his ex-wife changed their daughter’s school without his approval. Jackson reportedly doesn’t want to change his daughter’s elementary school. Amidst their legal feud, a letter written by the Dawson’s Creek actor on Monday, May 26, is listed among the evidence, per Us Weekly.
According to the entertainment magazine, Joshua Jackson discussed Juno traveling with her mother in his emotional note. The actor also shared his concerns about his daughter staying away from him for weeks. Jackson stressed that Juno should have an “equally exact” meaningful contact with both parents.
In his motion, Joshua expressed his grievances about his daughter accompanying Jodie on her work trips, which might impact her schooling. According to People, the actor stated in his filing,
“Jodie is attempting to create a scenario where Juno travels with her rather than attending a traditional school.”

Joshua Jackson objects to Juno’s weeks-long trip with Jodie Turner-Smith and asks for equally shared contact in the letter
Days before filing a motion, The Mighty Ducks star wrote a heartfelt note sharing some thoughts on his daughter’s custody with Jodie Turner-Smith. The letter, which is being used as evidence, was recently obtained by Us Weekly. According to the outlet, Joshua Jackson wrote,
“Thank you for your quick response. I am happy that we are having this dialogue and look forward to coming to an agreement together that balances all of [Juno’s] needs to provide her with the best outcome possible.”
Jackson showed his acceptance of Juno staying with her mother until they returned to LA but wrote about his concerns about being away from his daughter for an extended period. Joshua added,
“I don’t think it’s good for Juno to go for as long as you have proposed without seeing either parent, whenever it is reasonably possible for us to avoid without putting undue stress on Juno.”
According to Us Weekly, the actor shared his disagreement with Jodie Turner-Smith over not being able to spend time with Juno for weeks. Joshua Jackson asserted how four weeks is a long time for their five-year-old and continued,
“I understand why you are willing to agree to have Juno be based in Los Angeles during that time, it reduces the stress of air travel and time zone shifting on her.”
He further expressed,
“Thankfully this summer I have the ability to travel, thereby reducing the need for Juno to incur additional travel while still being able to provide her with a frequent, continuing and meaningful contact with both parents. [...] I think that maximizing that frequent, continuing and meaningful contact should be our guiding light [through] all of these conversations and planning of parenting time. Juno needs both of us. Ideally exactly equally.”
Joshua Jackson also wrote about not being on board with the idea of Juno traveling with Jodie to Morocco. He sought more details about the trip and asked to have a “meaningful discussion” before Turner-Smither plans to travel anywhere with their daughter.
According to Us Weekly, the actor mentioned an instance when Jodie allegedly did not share her travel plans with Juno until she “was on her way to London or already there.”
Joshua Jackson shared his willingness to educate himself on “mother/daughter” relationship
Per Us Weekly, the letter from Jodie Turner-Smith’s ex-husband addressed the “research” she previously presented on the relationship biracial children share with their mother. Jackson mentioned that having “read some articles” on the subject and writing,
“I am always willing to educate myself further if you can send me some links or citations. I am already in agreement that the mother/daughter relationship is of huge importance. I recognize that there are areas of Juno’s experience that I cannot touch or speak to from my own experience.”
Referencing Jodie Turner-Smith’s dynamic with their daughter, Jackson concluded,
“I hope you agree that the father/daughter relationship is also of huge importance.”
According to TMZ, the pair, who parted ways in 2023, finalized their divorce in May, with Joshua Jackson agreeing to pay $2,787/month in child support. However, the actor still had a disagreement with Jodie Turner-Smith over their daughter’s grad school.
