Comedian and podcaster Marc Maron’s ‘WTF’ podcast came to an end with Barack Obama as the guest. To record the final episode, Maron traveled to Washington. The episode synopsis on the podcast’s official website says:

“Former President Barack Obama welcomes Marc into his office to speak about the legacy of the podcast, the need for human connection, and the reason for optimism in the face of challenging times. Also, President Obama grants Marc’s specific request to help bring some closure to the past sixteen years of WTF.”

According to Celebrity Net Worth, Marc Maron has a net worth of $10 million. His ‘WTF’ podcast ran for 16 years and earned around 1.1 billion impressions, listens, and downloads. He owned a Spanish-style bungalow in Los Angeles, which he bought for approximately $375,000 in 2003. It was sold for $920,000 after it was listed in 2018.

During the last episode of his podcast with Barack Obama, the former US President asked how he felt about the transition, noting that the podcast held a remarkable position in his career. Maron said:

“I feel okay. I feel like I’m sort of ready for the break, but there is sort of a fear there, of what do I do now? I’m busy. But, not unlike your job, I’ve got a lot of people who over the last 16 years have grown to rely on me.”

In June 2025, Marc Maron announced that he had decided to shut down the podcast. According to The Associated Press, although he did not specify the reason for the closure, he mentioned that he felt tired and was content with what he did on the show.

Marc Maron talks about his conversation with Barack Obama

In an interview with The New York Times published on October 13, Marc Maron was asked why he wanted to have Barack Obama as the final guest on his podcast. He said that Obama also appeared on his podcast when the latter was a sitting President in 2015. He mentioned:

“I was happy to see him again and to talk about the current administration and the world we’re living in now, but also, you know, to honor my show.”

When Marc Maron was asked about the conversation with Obama, he said that the first time they met, there were Secret Service agents, a motorcade, and lots of staff, but Obama still seemed calm and down-to-earth.

However, this time, it was just the two of them talking in Obama’s office, which made the conversation more relaxed and meaningful. He also said Obama knew it was their final episode, which made the moment even more special for them. Looking back on the end of the podcast, he said,

“Well, I guess it’s real now. We’ve certainly had a big enough runway up to this. And I’ve had time to sort of adjust and adapt. But it’s going to be an interesting time, in terms of decompression and getting out of the habit.”

Marc Maron said that although he felt sad about it, he did not regret the decision. The time will help him think about life and his creative and emotional capabilities.
