Country singer John Rich has shared his thoughts about censorship in the entertainment industry. His statement comes days after actor and filmmaker Woody Allen spoke highly of Trump’s acting skills. Trump had essayed a cameo role in Allen's 1998 film, Celebrity.

On September 1, Allen was a guest on the Club Random Podcast, hosted by Bill Maher. Towards the end of the conversation, Allen said he was one of the many to claim that he directed Donald Trump, adding:

“He was a pleasure to work with and a very good act. He was very polite and hit his mark and did everything correctly and had a real flare for show business. I could direct him now. If he would let me direct him, now that he's president, I think I could do wonders. He was very easy to work with.”

Speaking to Bill Maher, Woody Allen said that, despite his political beliefs, he felt Donald Trump had a charismatic acting persona.

Meanwhile, in an interview with Fox News, published on September 3, John Rich said that many Left-oriented people in Hollywood could speculate how censorship was imposed. He said:

"I think a lot of people in Hollywood, even though they're leftists in a big way, they also felt the censorship machine coming after them."

Rich added:

"If you look at comedy, for instance, I've got some huge, huge comedian friends that are, like one guy in particular, it was a Bernie Sanders supporter. I mean, way left. And he even said, ‘I'm afraid to say certain jokes on stage right now. Fear of being canceled.’ And I said, ‘Well, man, that ain't no way to live. I mean, that's not American.’"

Rich then asked his friend if he would vote for Trump, and the person agreed. The country singer claimed:

“And so, I think the monster began to eat itself. The woke monster, the censorship monster began to eat itself.”

John Rich also said that there are certain liberal Democrats who aspire to raise their kids in a safe town, be after the American dream, and leave behind something for the next generation.

When Trump told John Rich that he was running for President

In 2011, John Rich appeared on the reality show Celebrity Apprentice, of which Trump was an executive producer. Earlier this year, the country singer appeared on the Try That in a Small Town Podcast, where he was asked about the first time he met the President. Rich said:

“Yeah, that's the first time I'd met him was I was on the set of that [show]. He did not listen to country music at all. Probably still doesn't.”

During the live finale on NBC, with more than 20 million people watching, Trump announced him as the winner, confetti fell, and John Rich looked shocked and excited on winning. Recalling that day, Rich said:

“Trump walks over to me, puts his arm around me, and we're waving at the crowd. He leans down in my here and he goes, ‘Did you hear I'm thinking about running for president?’”

Rich said he did, and when Trump asked if he should go for it, Rich told him, “Might as well.” Trump laughed, agreed, patted him on the chest a couple of times, and then walked away. He said he was the only one who heard it, amid the show’s finale being aired on national television. John Rich jokingly said that Trump turned his winning day about himself.
