According to Harper's Bazaar, Tim Rock and Aimee Carrero first met through Rock’s best friend, and Aimee said he tried to set the two up. Reflecting on their second meeting, she said,

“Tim was having new acting photos taken when I, the photographer's next appointment, arrived early. this time, it was the photographer and his wife who thought to set us up. They sent me home with Tim's forgotten hair product and emailed him with instructions to call me to retrieve it–and ask me out. Tim didn't call, and I never got the name of the cute guy at the studio.”

Aimee Carrero shared that they went for their first date exactly one year and one day after meeting at the photographer's place. She never gave back Tim’s hair product, and he never let that go. Tim Rock said:
