ESPN reporter Jenna Laine announced that she would take a break from her work commitments but the hiatus appears to be temporary. On November 10, Laine shared an X post writing:

“I wanted to wait until after the game so I could give it my full attention, but I’m having back surgery tomorrow. I did everything I could to buy time until after the season but I’ve exhausted all other options, and the longer I wait, the more I run the risk of permanent nerve damage.”

She added:

“I’m not sure when I’ll be back, but a big thank you to those who got word already and have sent well wishes THANK YOU! I’m immensely grateful to you, to my family, my colleagues at ESPN, the Bucs and to my fellow reporters on the beat here in Tampa. I’ll be back.”

According to her LinkedIn profile, Jenna Laine joined ESPN in 2016 and has been working as an NFL Nation Reporter for almost nine years. As per her work description, she:

“Provides daily news, insight and analysis about the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on ESPN.com, in addition to appearing on ESPN Radio and television programs.”

Before joining ESPN, Laine worked as a radio affiliate at iHeartMedia for three years. She also worked as a Sideline Reporter at IMG College for 11 months. Jenna Laine worked in various positions at Genesis Communications for almost three years. She holds a Master’s degree in Mass Communication from the University of South Florida.

A look into Jenna Laine’s journey in the industry

According to her website, Jenna Laine was an exuberant child. Although she couldn’t put herself to watch a TV program, she would be quite intrigued when Bob Costas came on TV.

Looking back on the time she became a football fan, she mentioned:

“Then in 1993, at age eight, I witnessed Tampa Bay Buccaneer Horace Copeland perform a celebratory backflip in the end zone. That’s when my football fan hood began. They were still being called “The Yucks” back in those days, but as a gymnast myself, it sure got my attention. To this day, I’m still a sucker for ‘end zone gymnastics,’ even more than the actual gymnastics I loved so much growing up.”

Laine later became a cheerleader representing the University of South Florida Bulls. Her involvement with this work developed her interest in athletics. Her connections helped her with internship opportunities.

Jenna Laine mentioned:

“As a junior, I wrote for Fox’s Scout.com, writing Big East weekly game previews, and honing some of the online writing skills I developed in the Multimedia Journalism Program. I was then selected as one of two journalism students for a prestigious Scripps Howard Internship and Scholarship Program, where I spent an entire summer as an employee of ABC Action News, one of the top TV stations in the state of Florida, and in the country.”

Jenna Laine shared that after graduating in 2007, she started covering the Buccaneers Training Camp for the Tuscaloosa News. Later, she worked as a multimedia reporter for Pewter Report Magazine, which focused on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. She reported on the team throughout the season, from training camp to the playoffs, the Senior Bowl, free agency, and the 2008 NFL Draft.
