Lee Weaver, the veteran American actor best known for his role as Brian Kincaid on The Bill Cosby Show, has passed away at the age of 95.

His death on September 22, 2025, marks the end of a long and steady career in film and television that spanned more than six decades.

Lee Weaver acted in more than 140 movies and television productions, receiving acclaim for his roles in O Brother, Where Art Thou?, Easy Street, and as a guest on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Hill Street Blues.

Weaver made his first appearance on television in 1955 with Sheena, Queen of the Jungle, and went on to become a regular in Hollywood productions.

Lee Weaver's early career and television debut

As mentioned, Lee Weaver made his debut on television when he played a recurring role in 1955 on the adventure show Sheena: Queen of the Jungle as Lagi. The show was based on the popular comic book character, thus, on a brave woman who lived in the jungle and encountered new challenges in every episode.

After his debut, Weaver would take several years to be in stage plays and also play minor roles in television.

Breakthrough and later career

In 1969, Weaver made his big break when he played the role of Brian Kincaid on The Bill Cosby Show, which aired between 1969 and 1971. The sitcom followed the journey of a teacher in high school and his associations with his students and friends. Kincaid was a pleasant surprise to the cast since Weaver brought warmth, humor, and realism to the show.

Following his success and performance in The Bill Cosby Show, Weaver featured in several television series and movies. Later on, he was credited in Easy Street (1986) and the highly reviewed O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000). He also guest-starred in memorable roles on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, Hill Street Blues and Sanford and Son. His talent enabled him to alternate well in both drama and comedy and his presence has remained unforgettable in a variety of genres.

During his six-decade-long career, Weaver worked with many famous actors and filmmakers. His long history of writing helped to create a bigger presence and visibility of African American actors in mainstream entertainment.
