When did Miley Cyrus and Patrick Schwarzenegger break up? Singer’s new visual album ‘Something Beautiful’ contains a nod to her ex’s dad Arnold

Miley Cyrus and Patrick Schwarzenegger ended their short-lived, well-publicized affair in April 2015. Ten years later, Cyrus's new visual album, Something Beautiful, which debuted at the Tribeca Film Festival on June 6, 2025, seems to refer to her ex-boyfriend's father, Arnold Schwarzenegger.

In the music video for the song Walk of Fame, the 32-year-old pop sensation is shown strolling along the Hollywood Walk of Fame before sleeping right on the gold-plated star of movies like Predator and Terminator legend Arnold Schwarzenegger. This is her ninth studio album.

This part in the video has shocked fans and intrigued them, particularly considering her past relationship with his son.

In November 2014, Miley and Patrick started dating, soon after the singer's breakup with longtime lover Liam Hemsworth. Patrick, who was a University of Southern California student at the time, had long adored Miley; in 2011, he even told Details Magazine:

“My eye is set on Miley.”

According to a source who revealed details at that time to US Weekly:

“They have been friends for a long time. They have a ton of common friends, so they have run in the same circles for years.” Another said: “She thinks he’s hot, she thinks he’s cool. Patrick is a nice good guy. He’s grown up in Hollywood just like her and it was only a matter of time before they hooked up.”

The couple's relationship immediately received media attention. They were photographed on their beach outings, on red carpets, as well as at the 2015 Grammy Awards.

Around Valentine's Day, Miley uploaded a photo of their selfie, captioned:

"Life couldn't get any better"

Meanwhile, Patrick wrote:

"Luckiest guy in the world."

confirming their relationship on Instagram.

Things changed in March 2015 when Patrick was seen spending spring break in Cabo San Lucas, becoming intimate with another lady, despite rumors of commitment and possibly marriage. He denied all the cheating allegations by going on a tweeting spree. He tweeted:

“Omg. It’s one of my best friend’s girlfriend… Would NEVER do anything against my GF… Girls have guy friends and guys have friends that are girls…”

Followed by another tweet:

"Omg. It's one of my best friends girlfriend…"

And another:

"Would NEVER do anything against my GF….."

And lastly:

"Girls have guy friends and guys have friends that are girls…"

all on the same day in 2015, on March 16.

The couple split after that and went their separate ways. According to a source who spoke to People Magazine:

“They’re just in two different places in their lives. He’s in college and she’s focused on her music and career.”

Miley Cyrus went on to date Stella Maxwell, and Patrick went on to date Abby Champion, who is currently his fiancée.

Miley Cyrus' reference to Arnold Schwarzenegger in her visual album seems to be intentional, even though the relationship with his son ended ten years ago. The Walk of Fame video, featuring Alabama Shakes’ Brittany Howard, focuses on the toll of fame.

As she lies on top of the seven-time Mr. Olympia, Miley Cyrus sings:

"Ooh, yeah, it's a walk of fame / And through the tears, I can see it so clear / Walk away, walk away."

Shooting the music video came at a cost, as Miley Cyrus disclosed that she had a terrible infection from the sidewalk on Jimmy Kimmel Live! She said:

"I was put in the ICU for a moment.”

She recalled that the doctor had asked:

"Do you have any idea why you would have such a brutal infection on your kneecap?"

She revealed to him that it was because of the music video that they had shot at night on Hollywood Boulevard without the required permits or sanitary facilities.

She explained that the ICU stay was short yet terrifying.

"To have a surgeon look at you and say, ‘Yuck’ Cyrus said… Like, they open up cadavers, they see inside the gut of humans, and they’re looking at me telling me I’m disgusting.”

Miley Cyrus and Patrick had a little run-in at the Met Gala in May 2025. Patrick was allegedly observing Miley as she posed for the camera.
