Joining other celebrities who have chosen to live abroad, celebrity chef Rachael Ray has made Italy her permanent home. Speaking with Us Weekly, the 57-year-old culinary artist said she prefers life in Tuscany to the one she had in New York. She explained (sic),

“It’s quiet. The dog is much happier. She hates New York City. Bella is not a New Yorker at all. So, for the dog’s sake, I spend as much time (in Italy) as I can...”

Talking about her dog, Bella, she further adds,

“She has a swimming pool and 66 hectares to run around on, and everything is very quiet, and the air is very fresh, and we have huge gardens and a vineyard and olive trees, and I just prefer that life.”

Ray, Known for her career spanning almost three decades, bought her Tuscan property back in 2021. Earlier this year, her fans raised concerns over her health after she was seen slurring words in a video she posted on Instagram.

Rachael Ray's life in Italy

The celebrity chef moved into her Italian villa after her Lake Luzerne home in New York burned down in a devastating fire in 2020. Initially, the property "looked like a war zone," according to her husband of twenty years, actor and producer John Cusimano. Rachael mentions this in the Fall 2021 issue of her magazine Rachael Ray In Season.

In the same issue, she talks about convincing her husband to build their own home rather than buying a house,

“'Honey, don’t you want to look at a… house?' But I fell in love with the fields and the views and I thought for the money we’d pay for a house, we could build something that’s really, truly ours.”

Her husband Cusimano, however, prefers living in New York and travels across the pond regularly. She says (sic),

“I tell him, 'Hey, go as often as you like, stay as long as you want.' I come to New York and upstate New York when I have work, I prefer Italy...”

The couple celebrated 20 years of their marriage last month.

Interestingly, Rachael Ray isn't the first celebrity to settle abroad rather than the U.S. Rosie O’Donnell, Ellen DeGeneres, and Eva Longoria have all emigrated in recent years. Some have cited political reasons, while others moved in search of a quieter life.
