Whitney Purvis’ family launch fundraiser to help pay for son Weston Gosa Jr.'s funeral after his death

The family of 16 and Pregnant star Whitney Purvis has set up a GoFundMe page to help pay for her son, Weston Owen Jr.'s, funeral following his untimely death at the age of 16.

The teenager unexpectedly passed away on June 2, 2025. Weston Jr., who was born during Season 1 of the MTV reality series in 2009, was said to have been living with several autoimmune diseases and diabetes.

Though he had health issues, his family said his sudden death came as a shock. The GoFundMe, created by Weston’s stepmother, Amy Gosa, is raising funds to cover the cost of a funeral and headstone for the teenager.

Whitney Purvis shared the news of her son’s death in an emotional Facebook and Instagram post. She described the tremendous loss she is experiencing, labeling the tragedy her “worst nightmare” and stating she is “in disbelief” over the loss of her son.

"I will always cherish our memories together, the songs you use to love, your laugh, the phases you would go through, the little dolphin noise you use to do when you were younger, your smile," Whitney wrote on her Instagram post.

According to US Weekly, Weston Gosa Jr.'s family said he was discovered unresponsive and without a pulse. He was pronounced dead at a hospital in Gordon County, Georgia, after family members and paramedics attempted CPR to revive him.

Although the family has not confirmed an official cause of death, the family suggested that his long-standing health issues might have contributed to his death.

In the years after being featured on 16 and Pregnant, Whitney has experienced a myriad of personal challenges, including legal woes and losing custody of her kids.

Her controversies began with a 2012 incident in which she was caught stealing a pregnancy test from Walmart. The same year, she and her then-boyfriend, Weston Gosa, were busted for allegedly trashing someone’s electronics.

According to an article by The Things, she was arrested in 2015 on charges of aggravated assault and trespassing when she was said to have broken into Weston’s home and beat him with a broom handle.

In 2021, Whitney Purvis was arrested for making terrorist threats after reportedly threatening Weston and his wife, which resulted in a temporary protective order.

In 2022, Whitney Purvis lost custody of her children to Weston and was ordered to pay child support. In 2024, she was jailed for two days for not making those payments. Therefore, it's safe to say that Whitney's life after the show had been marked by controversy, conflict, and legal setbacks.
