Brian Burkheiser, vocalist of the rock band I Prevail, has parted ways with the band. I Prevail took to their social media pages on May 15 to announce that they had mutually split with Burkheiser.
The Michigan-based Brian Burkeiser, who served as a vocalist and songwriter for I Prevail, is married to Caylin Scott. Caylin, who now goes by her married name, Caylin Cree Burkheiser, has been in a relationship with the Burkheiser since 2015.
Caylin, who was a regular feature at all of I Prevail’s shows, advocates for the Don't Forget Me Foundation and takes to her social media to campaign for Morgan Kozole, who suffers from a rare genetic disorder, BPAN which generally delays people’s intellectual development and impacts their fine motor skills.
Brian Burkheiser and Caylin Scott’s relationship explored
After dating each other for almost 4 years, Brian Burkheiser and Caylin Scott got engaged when the singer proposed to her in December 2018. The couple marked the occasion by taking to their social media pages to announce their engagement. Caylin posted an image of the ring Burkheiser proposed to her with, and wrote,
“A million times, YES”
Burkheiser also took to Instagram to share his joy at the engagement. Alongside an image of the couple, hand in hand, Burkheiser wrote,
“Almost 4 years ago I met the girl of my dreams. Today, I asked her to marry me. Love you baby!”
In June 2021, Caylin announced that she and Burkheiser got married in a post on social media. Caylin also shared images from the intimate wedding ceremony.
Burkheriser commemorated his first wedding anniversary with a touching tribute to Caylin. While he could not be with his wife on the day, he expressed gratitude and wrote,
“Happy 1 year anniversary to my amazing wife. Every day I wake up, I feel like the luckiest man alive to have you as my partner. Wish I could be with you in person today and not on a 36 hour trek to Australia, but can’t wait to see you and the pets when I get back!”
In the summer of 2024, the couple took to social media to share that they were expecting their first child alongside photographs of ultrasound scans.
Burkheiser and Caylin became parents in January 2025 and revealed the name of their child in an Instagram post. While sharing images of the baby in a joint post, the couple wrote,
“Benson Allan Burkheiser. Mom and Dad never knew a love like this could exist.”
About Brian Burkheiser’s health struggles
In May 2024, Brian Burkheiser took to social media to reveal that he had been suffering from a rare disease called Eagle syndrome, for which he had to undergo multiple surgical procedures. While sharing that he would not be able to perform with I Prevail for at least a month, he wrote,
“I recently underwent multiple surgeries for a rare disease called Eagle Syndrome. It pains me to do this, but unfortunately I will have to miss the next month of shows as the recovery process continues. Initially, I thought I could push through the pain, but my body and mind just need more time to heal.”
According to Cleveland Clinic’s website, Eagle syndrome causes pain in a patient’s neck, face and throat when the styloid process, which is a compact bone underneath the ears, or a stylohyoid ligament, elongates and becomes bony instead of stretchable.
While sharing his struggles with the disease, Burkheiser wrote,
"If I’m being honest, this disease has broken me over the last few years. I knew something was wrong dating all the way back to 2018, and it wasn’t until recently that I officially figured out the problem. I’ve pushed myself through multiple tour cycles trying my best to keep a positive spirit, but as the days passed by, the negativity and pain grew.”
Burkheiser revealed that due to the rare occurrence of Eagle syndrome, very few people know of the disease, and the sufferers often become suicidal and feel dependent upon their loved ones. He also shared,
“I have felt many of those feelings, but now I’m on a mission to help spread awareness and be a voice for those who suffer.”
At the time, Brian Burkheiser also wrote that I Prevail members, Eric Vanlerberghe and Dylan Bowman, covered for him while he was dealing with his medical condition. Burkheiser also urged his fans and well-wishers to support the band’s ongoing tours.

I Prevail on their split with Brian Burkheiser
While the band did not confirm whether their split with Brian Burkheiser was related to the singer’s medical condition, they did reveal that the decision to part ways was mutual. On May 15, the band wrote on their Instagram page,
"Today we share that we are mutually parting ways with Brian Burkheiser. This was a difficult decision, but we believe it is the right one and we are all grateful for the 10 epic years we shared together. We wish Brian nothing but success and happiness in his future endeavors.”
They announced that Vanlerberghe would be the band’s frontman and added,
"Moving forward, Eric will continue to be the powerhouse frontman you’ve come to know and love. He’ll be backed up live by Dylan who you’ve seen in this role many times over the years at the shows we’ve performed without Brian.Rest assured, we will continue to deliver the high-energy shows that we’ve made a pillar of our band, and we will continue to perform all the bangers from our catalogue.”
All of I Prevail’s shows are scheduled to continue.
