Casey Brown, the former assistant coach of Boston University’s women's soccer team, is responding to the harassment allegations leveled by podcaster Alex Cooper against the team’s former head coach, Nancy Feldman.

Casey Brown was a student-athlete at Boston University and an assistant coach from 2013 to 2015, as per the Boston University Athletics website. Her tenure as assistant coach coincided with the period when Alex Cooper played soccer at the university.

Casey Brown also served as head coach at Penn for two years until 2022. After Feldman retired, Brown took her place as head coach at Boston University from 2022 onwards. After leading the team for three seasons, Boston University Athletics announced that Brown was stepping down in December 2024.

In a statement released to the Boston Globe, Brown addressed Cooper’s allegations, which noted that as assistant coach, Brown failed to protect Cooper when the latter asked for help. Casey Brown claimed that she had “no recollection of what has been suggested,” and added,

“But let me be absolutely clear: I would never ignore, dismiss or turn away from anyone — a player, a teammate, a friend, a family member — who sought my help in any capacity. As a coach, I understood the weight of my responsibility to protect my players and act accordingly. The suggestion that I would do otherwise is completely false.”

Casey Brown was mentioned in Alex Cooper’s allegations against the then head coach, Nancy Feldman

In her recently released docuseries, Call Her Alex, Alex Cooper alleged that while playing soccer at Boston University on a full athletic scholarship, she was harassed by the then head coach, Nancy Feldman.

People Magazine noted that while addressing the alleged harassment, Cooper claimed that Feldman made inappropriate remarks, asked questions about the athlete’s s*x life and touched her thigh. As per the publication, Cooper spoke about the experience and alleged,

"It was this psychotic game of, 'You want to play? Tell me about your s*x life,' I felt so deeply uncomfortable.”

Cooper shared detailed insights into the alleged harassment while speaking to the Boston Globe. Cooper revealed that once, during a meeting at the head-coach’s office where Casey Brown was present, Cooper was put on the spot. Cooper was one of the soccer players who was recovering from mononucleosis, but was the only one who was reportedly asked by Feldman how she had contracted the disease, and who she had been with.

Boston Globe noted that Cooper claimed that she made eye contact with Brown and pleaded for help. However, Cooper alleged that Casey Brown “did nothing about it.”

Cooper detailed the alleged harassment during her conversation with the publication, and claimed that Feldman would touch her

“in a way that would make me aware of her physical power, like putting her hand on my neck after practice, and like squeezing my neck and saying, ‘We need to have a one-on-one talk.’ ... And a hand on the thigh when she’s saying something inappropriate.”

After Cooper’s docuseries premiered at the Tribeca Festival on June 8, Boston University addressed the s*xual harassment allegations in a statement released to various media outlets on June 13.

As per People Magazine, the university’s statement upheld its non-tolerance of s*xual harassment, and read:

“Boston University has a zero-tolerance policy for s*xual harassment. We have a robust system of resources, support and staff dedicated to student wellbeing and a thorough reporting process through our Equal Opportunity Office. We encourage members of our community to report any concerns, and we remain committed to fostering a safe and secure campus environment for all.”

However, according to Cooper, her and her parents’ efforts to complain against Feldman and bring the alleged harassment to light in front of the university’s administrations did not lead anywhere.
