Conner Smith was involved in a traffic collision on Sunday, June 8, 2025. The fatal car accident claimed the life of a 77-year-old pedestrian, who has been identified as Dorothy Dobbins.
The Metropolitan Nashville Police Department stated in a press release that the country music singer was driving a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on Sunday. The collision reportedly happened around 07:30 pm (local time), and initial investigations revealed that Dobbins “was inside a marked crosswalk” when she was hit by the vehicle.
Dorothy Dobbins was rushed to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she passed away. According to Metropolitan Nashville PD (via People Magazine),
“The preliminary contributing factor for this crash appears to be Smith failing to yield the right of way to the pedestrian. He showed no signs of impairment.”
Currently, the police have leveled no charges against Conner Smith. For those unaware, the country singer was born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, per AllMusic. He has been married to Leah Smith (née Thompson) since April 12, 2024. The pair announced their marriage in a collaborative Instagram post last year, sharing pictures from the ceremony.
Leah Smith is a professional surfer and an entrepreneur. She owns the swimwear brand Legacy the Label, which celebrated its first anniversary in May. Leah is from North Carolina and has been a competitive surfer since she was 12, according to Pinkvilla. Per the outlet, Smith has also modeled for the surfing sportswear brand Rip Curl.
Leah and Conner Smith got engaged in September 2023 on the 90th birthday of the former’s grandma
The country music singer and his surfer partner have been together for more than a couple of years. They got engaged on September 26, 2023, and announced the same via an Instagram post, sharing pictures from their memorable picnic.
A few days later, Conner Smith dedicated a post to his then-fiancée and soon-to-be wife, sharing a montage of their engagement pictures and random clips of Leah. He captioned his Instagram post,
“Even before she was my girlfriend, I knew I would marry Leah Grace one day if she ever let me… @_leahthompson Thank you for trusting me with your heart”
In the video, Conner shared a song he wrote for Leah while also revealing that he proposed to her on her grandmother’s 90th birthday with her diamond ring. Coincidentally, his then-girlfriend was also one of the inspirations behind the name of his debut album, Smoky Mountains. Conner revealed in a 2024 interview with The Boot Magazine,
“Part of the reason we called it ‘Smoky Mountains’ was because of how interwoven Leah’s and my love story is. She’s from North Carolina, I’m from Tennessee, and the Smoky Mountains connects the two.”

“His heart goes out to Ms. Dobbins’ family during this incredibly difficult time. Mr. Smith continues to cooperate fully with the ongoing investigation.”
