Popular American actress Diane Keaton died yesterday at the age of 79 in California.

As per People, Diane's family chose to keep things very private. Diane's close friend, however, told the publication that her health had rapidly declined in recent months.

Keaton was the mother of two children, a daughter named Dexter and a son named Duke, whom she had adopted in her 50s and raised on her own.

In an interview with Ladies' Home Journal in 2008, Keaton discussed her desire to become a mother, saying:

"I didn't think that I was ever going to be prepared to be a mother. Being a mother was more of an idea I had been considering for a very long time than a need I couldn't resist. So I dove right in."

The late star received numerous tributes from her peers and friends. Actor Leonardo DiCaprio called Keaton "one of a kind," while Bette Midler, who costarred with Keaton in The First Wives Club, called her:

"brilliant, beautiful, extraordinary."

Keaton became well-known in the 1970s and acted in iconic movies, including The Godfather, a mafia epic directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and The First Wives Club.

Diane Keaton portrayed Kay Adams-Corleone, a character she later played again in The Godfather parts II and III. She also enjoyed working with director Woody Allen for many years, and in 1978, she won an Academy Award for her performance in Annie Hall.

Diane Keaton decided to embrace motherhood in her 50s. She decided to adopt a daughter named Dexter and a son named Duke and raised the two on her own as a single mother.

Dexter Keaton, Keaton's daughter, was born on December 15, 1995, and Keaton adopted her the following year.

Dexter's LinkedIn profile states that she graduated from Carrington College California-Pomona with an Associate's degree in Veterinary Technology. She has been married to husband Jordan White for four years now.

Dexter shared several charming photos of herself and her mother on social media, including a cute old photo of the two of them in a swimming pool from her younger days.

Duke Keaton was born on February 8, 2000. He was adopted by the actress in 2001.

At a 2009 Los Angeles Lakers game, the mother-son pair was spotted sitting courtside, and Duke was too preoccupied taking pictures with a digital camera to watch the action. He even got a close-up of Kobe Bryant.

Diane Keaton had shared some adorable photos of her son over the years, including a montage she created for his birthday in February 2022.
