Halle Berry’s daughter Nahla, 17, is going to a college summer program this year.

The Die Another Day star recently opened up about her child starting her college life. Berry was a guest co-host on the June 4 episode of Today with Jenna & Friends, when she told Jenna Bush Hager (via InStyle),

“She's [Nahla] 17. She's going to a college summer program, the college that she's hoping to go to next year. She's going away this year to the college summer program.”

Jenna acknowledged that Nahla would be moving out soon and wondered how Halle Berry felt. The Catwoman actress said (via InStyle),

“It is [wild], but I'm not one of these moms that feels like, 'Oh, she's leaving.' Yes, will I worry? Of course. But am I excited for her to start her life and figure out who she's gonna be? Absolutely. I'm dying to see who she's gonna be and what she's gonna do and what she'll discover.”

Nahla is the Monster’s Ball star’s firstborn child, whom she welcomed with Gabriel Aubry, a Canadian model. According to People Magazine, the pair met during a Versace ad shoot and began dating in November 2005. They welcomed Nahla in March 2008 and dated for a few more years. Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry parted ways in 2010, per People Magazine.

Apart from being a mother to a teenage daughter, the X-Men star also has an 11-year-old son, Maceo-Robert Martinez. She shares her second child with actor Olivier Martinez, with whom she shared the screen in Dark Tide. Both actors met on the sets of the horror thriller in 2010. Berry and Martinez announced their engagement in 2012 and tied the knot the following year.

Maceo was born in October 2013, and Halle and Olivier announced their split two years later. Their divorce was finalized in 2016. Before Martinez, Berry was also married to David Justice and Eric Benét, but didn’t share any kids with them. The award-winning actress is currently dating singer-songwriter Van Hunt.

Apart from her two children, Halle Berry is also a pet parent to multiple dogs and cats. She is an advocate of adopting animals while also being involved in other philanthropic work in the past. Earlier this year, the 58-year-old actress was among the celebrities donating to Wildfire relief in LA.

Halle Berry wants to keep Nahla and Maceo’s lives away from people’s attention

Despite being a celebrity, the Oscar-winning actress has kept her children away from the public eye. She candidly spoke about keeping her kids’ lives private during a 2019 appearance on the Today show. Berry told the host, Craig Melvin,

“I just, you know, I’ve fought really hard to protect their privacy, you know. And I just want them to have their life and have it be theirs and not… And also it’s a safety issue. I just don’t want to plaster them all over the internet. That just doesn’t feel right for me, you know.

She maintained that it was her children’s decision, as she said,

“They’re gonna do that soon enough. That’s gonna be their life when they grow up, and they will choose when that starts.”

Halle Berry has occasionally posted about her children on social media. In 2023, she wished Nahla on her 15th birthday in a dedicated Instagram post. In May, she uploaded an old picture with her children while wishing everyone a “Happy Mother’s Day.” Halle also wrote,

In 2021, Halle Berry shared a wholesome incident involving her then-eight-year-old son. The actress was a guest on Live with Kelly and Ryan when she mentioned Maceo pronouncing her and Van Hunt as husband and wife. The Hollywood star clarified that she was not married to her boyfriend but called her son’s a sweet “commitment ceremony,” per People Magazine.
