More about Jamin Dershowitz, as his elder brother, film producer Elon Dershowitz passes away

Jamin Dershowitz was born in 1963, just two years after his older brother Elon. The brothers grew up in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with their parents Alan Dershowitz and Sue Barlach, who married in 1959. Unlike his brother, Jamin decided to follow the career path of his father and attended the University of Pennsylvania.

According to the blog Bryce Legal, Dershowitz graduated from University summa cum laude with the highest honors and he was also a member of Phi Beta Kappa. Dershowitz later pursued a law degree from Yale University, from where he graduated in 1988.

According to The New Yorker, Jamin's parents separated in 1974, after fourteen years of marriage. The couple then finalized their divorce in 1976. Sue Barlach was temporarily awarded sole custody of both children, but later lost custody rights after it was found that she spoke negatively about her former husband in front of her children. The presiding judge then ruled against her. Jamin Dershowitz was just twenty years old when his mother, Sue Barlach, died in an apparent suicide in 1983.

After completing his education, Dershowitz started working as a law clerk for Joseph Louis Tauro, the former District Court Judge for the district of Massachusetts, who served in that office from 1972 to 2013. Following this role, Jamin Dershowitz started working as a public defender for the New York Legal Aid Society, a non profit organization founded in 1876 that provides free legal aid services to low income income families in the city. In 1994, after working there, Dershowitz joined the NBA as a legal counselor.

Dershowitz is now the General Counsel for the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA), where his responsibilities primarily include reviewing contracts, among other legal matters. He is married to Barbara Dershowitz, and the couple share two children.
