As per a recent Instagram post, Oscar-winning actress and stand-up comedian Mo’Nique revealed that she treats her husband like a king.
The clip shows Mo'Nique discussing the sanctity of marriage and stating she has no problem doing what her husband asks her to do.
Mo'Nique further mentions that women nowadays are focusing on the monetary aspect and being "power couples" rather than focusing on love and being together as a team.
My mother said to me, some years ago (she is no longer here)... You make sure to keep something away for a rainy day. I said 'if it rains, we will get wet together'
Then she said 'You have given Sidney all the power'. I said what you see me giving Sidney is respect and you never gave my father. So for you it looks like power but to me it looks like respect. Mo'Nique says in the viral clip
Mo'Nique is married to Sidney Hicks, whom she met at a tender age of 14. The two got married in the year 2006 and have been inseparable ever since. It is believed that Hicks has played a major role in Mo'Nique's success as she had hired him as a manager shortly after the two married.
Mo'Nique won a Golden Globe, a BAFTA, and an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress for her 2009 performance in Precious while being managed by Hicks. She was nominated for a Primetime Emmy in 2015 for her performance in Bessie.
The couple shares two twin boys, along with children from previous relationships.
About Mo'Nique's husband, Sidney Hicks
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Mo'Nique and Hicks grew up in Baltimore and first met in 10th grade at Randallstown High School. Their relationship has stood the test of time, dating back many years before Mo'Nique became famous.
While Hicks was in a committed relationship and had a child of his own, Mo'Nique had two marriages before marrying Hicks, along with a son. The New York Times claims that despite their previous romances, the two stayed friends. After their previous marriages ended, the long-time friends became lovers and decided to get married.
“Our energies and spirits just connected,” Mo'Nique told The Hollywood Reporter, adding Hicks first leaned in for a kiss while they were sharing a bathroom mirror. “We’ve not been apart since,” she said.
Hicks is not just Mo'Nique's spouse but also her manager, a position he assumed early in her career. Mo'Nique's shift from stand-up comedy to dramatic roles, including her 2009 Oscar-winning performance in Precious, was witnessed by Hicks.
Mo'Nique and Hicks share two children named Jonathan and David Hicks, born on October 7, 2005. The twins were healthy and arrived about two months early. After they were born, Jonathan weighed 3 pounds 12 ounces, while his brother David weighed 4 pounds, so they spent a few weeks in the hospital to develop strength.
Both of them continued to parent their two sons from prior relationships after getting married in 2006.
In their collaborative podcast, Mo'Nique & Sidney's Open Relationship, Mo'Nique and Hicks discussed their relationship and much more. They published 105 episodes between 2017 and 2018.
The couple discussed the criticism they received for being honest about their relationship in the podcast.
