Robin Thicke paid tribute to his father, Alan Thicke, during his wedding to girlfriend April Love Geary. The couple married on May 30, 2025, in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, where there was an empty chair kept aside in Alan’s memory during the wedding ceremony.

Thanks to a video shared by Kelly Gores, according to Us Weekly, on her Instagram story, people online were able to notice a banner attached to Alan Thicke’s empty chair, which read:

"In loving memory of Alan Thicke, Father of the groom. We remember… Although you cannot be here with us today, your love and light remain in our hearts," the message read.

Alan Thicke, who is best known for playing Dr. Jason Seaver in the TV series Growing Pains, died in 2016 at 69 from a heart attack triggered by a ruptured aorta and an aortic dissection.

Alan, a native of Ontario, Canada, was a beloved actor known for his many influential roles. According to People Magazine, beyond acting, he was also a proficient writer and composer, penning theme songs for shows like Diff’rent Strokes and The Facts of Life with his wife, Gloria Loring.

Robin Thicke's mom, Gloria Loring, is also an actress who is best known for her work on the 1980s NBC daytime television serial Days of Our Lives, on which she appeared from 1982 to 1983 playing the role of Liz Chandler. Gloria and Alan were married in 1970 and had two sons before they separated, but remained close through their children.

Gloria Loring previously stated that Alan Thicke was always fully devoted to his kids, Robin and Brennan, even through his busy work schedule. Alan and Gloria continued to be friends and co-parents even after divorcing in 1984.

In interviews, Loring has described memories of Alan’s effort to remain a present father while working in different cities.

"He loved to play with them, But at one point he was doing three different shows in three different cities... He loved the creative part of it. At the same time he was very devoted to family," she told People Magazine in an interview.

According to Billboard, apart from Robin Thicke honoring his father, the wedding itself was supposedly filled with fireworks and adorable family snaps, posted to the couple's Instagram Stories, which included a black and white shot of the couple and their three children, Mia, Lola, and Luca.

Robin Thicke also shares a 15-year-old son, Julian, with his ex-wife, Paula Patton. Celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio, Usher, and Ken Jeong were present at the wedding.
