Sherrone Moore was the head football coach for the University of Michigan Wolverines. He took over the program in January 2024 after serving in several roles on the team’s coaching staff. He was terminated as the head coach on December 10, 2025, following a claimed policy violation.

Moore was fired following an internal inquiry into allegations that he was involved in an improper relationship with one of his staff members. The university indicated that the action was not in accordance with the rules of the university. He was fired abruptly and attracted significant coverage throughout the college football community.

Moore was only arrested by the police a few hours after he was fired. Information regarding the reason why he was arrested was not well established. The sequential events in a very short period of time posed many questions concerning what occurred during and after the investigation.

Sherrone Moore joined the Michigan football staff in 2018. He was initially employed as the tight ends coach. Gradually, he advanced to larger positions. Later, he was hired as the coach of the offensive line and co-offensive coordinator. He also became a full offensive coordinator in 2023.

In 2023, Sherrone Moore stepped in as Michigan’s interim head coach during Jim Harbaugh’s four-game suspension. He led the Wolverines to a perfect 4–0 record, delivering standout victories against both Penn State and Ohio State. His leadership during that critical stretch played a major role in keeping Michigan’s momentum alive and ultimately helped pave the way for the team’s national championship run that season.

Michigan announced that Moore was the full-time head coach in January 2024. He was the coach of the team for two seasons. He had only an 18-8 record, 8-5 in 2024, and 9-3 in 2025. During his reign, the team won significant rivalry matches. Moore had also become the first Black permanent head coach in the history of Michigan football.

Sherrone Moore was fired because of an anonymous tip received by the university, according to a report by ESPN published on December 10, 2025. The claims were initiated in Michigan. Initially, investigators claimed that there was no definite evidence. New information ensued later. This saw the university reopen the case. According to officials, the new evidence proved the violation of the university policy.

Moore was removed by the Michigan athletic director, Warde Manuel, who announced it right away. He said that the school has a zero-tolerance policy regarding such behavior. Moore had left, and Biff Poggi was appointed to head Michigan in the Citrus Bowl against Texas on December 31.

Sherrone Moore was taken into custody by Saline police officers in Ann Arbor following the shooting. He was later transferred to the Pittsfield Township Police Department for further questioning. Authorities have not yet released details about potential charges, leaving the situation uncertain. His detention adds another dark and complicated layer to an already intricate case.
