Who is Ty Burrell’s wife Holly Burrell? Modern Family star reveals family has no regrets leaving Hollywood for Utah

As per a recent article by the New York Post, actor Ty Burrell, who gained fame from the ABC show Modern Family, recently admitted that he has no regrets for leaving the industry and moving to Utah.

Following the successful 11-year run of the popular ABC sitcom, the actor decided to move to Utah.

“It’s just been spectacular. We moved here right after [“Modern Family”] ended, and I don’t have any regrets. It’s been lovely and a great place to raise the kids." Burrell told People Magazine in an interview published on August 03, Sunday.

Ty Burrell is married to Holly Burrell, a former actor and now professional chef, with whom he shares two daughters named Frances and Greta. The two met at the Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, D.C.

Burrell and his wife decided to leave Los Angeles after he finished shooting the 11th and final season of Modern Family. After which the couple settled in Salt Lake City as they wanted their daughters to live an "outdoorsy" way of life. However, Ty Burrell also discussed that the move was not easy for him, as well as for his parents.

“My parents weren’t really those kinds of people.” Burrell told the publication as he talked about the mountains. “So at first, when we moved here, it almost felt like cosplay, like we were pretending to be people who were outdoorsy, and now we really truly love it.”

In an earlier interview with People Magazine in March 2025, Ty Burrell gave insights about his marriage to Holly.

“This is probably connected to the really old axiom of ‘Don’t go to bed angry,’ but we force ourselves to talk about stuff. Both of us make sure that if something’s wrong, by the end of the night, we have at least had some discussion about it. Neither one of us are silent treatment people, and I think that’s a real benefit, because I think that can be really hard on a relationship, when you don’t talk about things.”

As per Bustle, Ty met Holly in the late 90s while the two were working together in the Shakespeare Theatre in Salt Lake. While the actor likes to keep his personal life under wraps, he has shared that he knew instinctively on his first date that he was going to marry Holly and believes that it was love at first sight.

Ty Burrell and Holly became parents in 2010 by adopting their first daughter, Greta, followed by adopting Frances in 2012.

The two got married secretly in the 2000s and decided to move to New York to establish themselves as actors. While Ty Burrell hit the mark with Modern Family, Holly decided that acting wasn't for her.

Cooking immediately became Holly's new love. She completed the pastry program at the International Culinary Center's French Culinary Institute in New York with honors. She also worked at a small bakery after college.

“I value meals that we can put together in about an hour. Someday when our kids are grown, I’ll relish taking half a day to prepare something, but right now I want something healthy, tasty, and reliably fast.” Holly said in an intervew about utilizing her culinary skills for family.

Ty Burrell and Holly donated $100,000 to the Downtown Alliance and Salt Lake City in 2020 to support hard-hit service industry workers. This funding was utilized by the city to establish Tip Your Server, an initiative that offers financial assistance to bar and restaurant staff who have been let go as a result of the COVID-19 outbreak.
