Modern Family cast

Modern Family is one of the most famous family comedy-drama series which was created by Christopher Lloyd and Steven Levitan and aired its first episode on September 23, 2009. The series has run for a total of 11 seasons and around 250 episodes with its last episode being aired on April 8, 2020. In its 11-year journey, the series has earned a total of 22 Emmy Awards, one Golden Globe Award, 3 American Film Institute Awards, and 2 Art Directors Guild Awards among many others.

The main cast of Modern Family is divided into three interconnected families, namely The Pritchett Family, The Dunphy Family, and The Tucker-Pritchett Family. Let's check them out:

The Pritchett Family

Ed O’Neill as Jay Pritchett

The patriarch of the family, Jay Pritchett is shown as a wealthy and gruff businessman with a love for golf and dogs, and is known to have a dry sense of humor. He is also sometimes seen to have a stubborn personality. He is married to Gloria and is the father of Claire and Mitchell. With Gloria, Jay has an adoptive son Manny, and a biological son named Joe.

Sofía Vergara as Gloria Delgado-Pritchett

Gloria Delgado-Pritchett is shown to be Jay's vibrant and passionate Colombian wife. Gloria is much younger than Jay and has quite a fierce and obsessive motherly nature. Gloria is quite protective of her family. The character’s Colombian English accent is always a bit hard to get and she often gets lost in translation, resulting in humorous situations.

Rico Rodriguez as Manny Delgado

Manny is Gloria’s son from her first marriage. Initially, the character is shown to be a mature, artistic, and romantic child and has kept his characteristics constant throughout the series. Manny loves writing poetry and is also known to have a love for culture and refinement.

Jeremy Maguire as Joe Pritchett

Jay and Gloria’s youngest son, Joe, is introduced later during season 4 of the series and his presence has created various funny moments in the series.

The Dunphy Family

Julie Bowen as Claire Dunphy

Claire is the eldest daughter of Jay and is married to Phil Dunphy in Modern Family. The character is shown to have taken after her father and is a perfectionist mother of three who tries to balance between her family life and her professional career.

Ty Burrell as Phil Dunphy

In Modern Family, Phil Dunphy is a goofy and loving husband and father in the Dunphy family. Phil is mostly seen as a hilarious character with an endless supply of dad jokes. He often calls himself the “cool dad” in handling any situation in his family. Phil works as a real estate agent and is quite a gadget geek.

Sarah Hyland as Haley Dunphy

Haley Dunphy is the eldest daughter in the family and is a fashion-loving teenager. Even though she is not academically smart, she is street smart and grows up to be a responsible adult. The character ends up marrying her on-and-off boyfriend Dylan and has 2 kids who are named Poppy and George Marshall.

Ariel Winter as Alex Dunphy

Alex Dunphy is the middle child in the Dunphy family and is the smartest child among the trio. Alex is often seen as a book lover and an overachiever, gaining high grades in academics. Alex was seen completing her education as a student at CalTech, majoring in biochemistry.

Nolan Gould as Luke Dunphy

The youngest Dunphy, Luke, is adventurous, eccentric, and always up to something unpredictable. In the earlier parts of the series, Luke was seen to develop a habit of experimenting or inventing something new which are a few traits that he takes from his father. Luke has multiple hidden talents and is quite charming in his personality which makes him easily quite a likable character in the series.

The Tucker-Pritchett Family

Jesse Tyler Ferguson as Mitchell Pritchett

Mitchell Pritchett is the son of Jay Pritchett and is known to work as a lawyer in the series. Mitchell is a reserved guy who is often seen to be yearning for his father’s love and struggles to understand him at various points in the series. The character has come out as gay and is married to Cameron.

Eric Stonestreet as Cameron Tucker

Cameron Tucker is the theatrical and highly dramatic husband of Mitchell Pritchett. The character was a former American football player (which is one of the topics that connected him to Jay) and used to work as a clown named “Fizbo the Clown” before turning into a stay-at-home dad, taking care of his daughter.

Aubrey Anderson-Emmons as Lily Tucker-Pritchett

Lily is Mitchell and Cameron’s adopted daughter and is known to be of Vietnamese heritage. Lily is a sarcastic and wise child who can also be quite straightforward and brutally honest in nature.
