Tyrese Gibson, 46, reacted to Halle Berry's "on hold" comment on delaying accepting Van Hunt’s marriage proposal. During a conversation with Today, she revealed that she has not responded yes to her beau's proposal yet.

On June 5, the actor shared a cryptic message on his Instagram for his "sister and a good friend," Halle Berry. He weighed in, asking,

"Is the institution of marriage dead?"

In his personal life, Tyrese Gibson has been married twice, first to Norma Gibson and then to Samantha Lee Gibson.

Norma accused Tyrese of defamation and revealing private information about her daughter, Shayla, whom she shares with the actor. Reportedly, she sought a temporary restraining order, too.

The Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen actor exchanged vows with Norma in 2007. They were only married for 10 months before their divorce, which was finalized in 2009. He tied the knot to Samantha on February 14, 2017, and divorced in 2020.

Tyrese expressed his thoughts and shared his opinions on the recent incident, further asking several questions. He enquired in the detailed caption of his Instagram post,

“Can we ever get to a place where we feel WHOLE in a relationship and feel like you are truly in love and HAVE your PERSON without marrying them when marriage in itself has caused so much trauma and pain.?"

"Is love really about THE RING and the dress and random speeches at weddings??"

"Or should a man/women respect the traumas and financial BLOOD BATHS that one has experienced and allow them the space to figure it out?"

Opening up about the bond he shares with Halle Berry, Tyrese Gibson explained on the platform,

"There’s so many fears of the unknown. Halle Berry happens to be my sister and a good friend, and we have been there for each other for years now with conversations and dialogue around divorces and child support and family courts and the traumas that have been inflicted on us because of it!"

Sharing his endearing affection for Halle and wishing the best for her, he also noted,

"If I’m being honest with you there’s no one in the world is more happy for Halle Berry than me because her GLOW is a GLOW that’s worth loving, nurturing, and protecting at all cost…. Our beloved BLACK QUEEN has found her BLACK KING!!!! I LOVE LOVE!"

Tyrese Gibson intimated that discussing marriage is "really hard and very fragile, and UBER sensitive."

He left a sweet message for people who have their soulmates already, adding,

"For the people out there that are lucky and love, and I found their person and have been able to do it for years up one year. I will give you some advice that Rev Run gave me. Let her win! There was no argument there is no position or disposition thats ever worth you going through a divorce :("

According to a ComingSoon.net report, Tyrese Gibson and Norma Mitchell were married for just 10 months. They filed for a divorce in October 2008. A messy legal custody followed their separation.

Norma rose to fame after her marriage to Tyrese and the much-talked-about court battles. According to a 2009 Radar Online report, she wanted some changes in the arrangement for their custody and child, and spousal support as well.

Norma reflected on her marriage and legal cases during a conversation with Madame Noire in 2015. Stating her wish to just "move on and move forward," she explained,

"I just have come to a point where I felt that I really want to have a voice and speak up for myself. It’s been a long time that I have been going through this and I just want to move on and move forward."

Norma went ahead to accuse her ex-partner of abusing their daughter. According to People Magazine, she mentioned in the court documents that Tyrese Gibson:

"pushed our daughter to the ground, pinned her face down, put his knees on her back, grabbed her hands with one arm and beat her with the other"

Norma continued her allegations, mentioning that he beat their girl around "12 and 16 times." The case concluded with the Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services ending their inspection, stating that they did not file criminal charges against Gibson.

Last year, in May, Norma got involved in another legal case with her ex-husband as she filed a lawsuit, accusing him of defaming her. Also, she accused Tyrese of letting out details about Shayla.

Tyrese was also married to Samantha Lee. During their marriage, the estranged couple welcomed a daughter, Soraya Lee Gibson, in October 2018. According to a People Magazine report, Tyrese was briefly arrested after he failed to pay child support to his ex-wife. The judge ordered to pay around $73,000 to Fulton County officials to avoid jail time.
