What did Simon Cowell say about the spirit tunnel?
On the show, Jennifer Hudson asked if he liked the spirit tunnel, to which Simon Cowell said he loved it. He joked that he might use the idea for America’s Got Talent, saying:
“I absolutely loved it. I asked, ‘Where did you come up with the idea?’ And they told me the idea. It's like the best way of coming on a show. Seriously, I've ever done in my life.”
Cowell further joked that he wanted to do the spirit tunnel segment twice, to which Hudson suggested that he could do it on his way back. She said he could show some of his special moves, but Simon Cowell quipped that she wouldn’t want to see that. He also said:
“Now, I was thinking on the way down here, the very first show. I mean, that I can't believe it was all those years ago.”
Jennifer Hudson said:
“Simon was my first guest on the Jennifer Hudson show. Number one on my wish list to have. So, thank you for making that happen.”
Simon Cowell said that although he was thrilled, he felt nervous thinking that it must have been nerve-wracking for Jennifer Hudson. She agreed and pointed towards her audience. Cowell said he was honored by the idea that Hudson thought of him as the guest. He said even after so many years, she was doing a great job on the show.
Simon Cowell lists his top singers and discusses the changing music industry
Jennifer Hudson asked Simon Cowell if he had his own list of top singers like a personal Mount Rushmore. Simon said his choices were Whitney Houston, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Mariah Carey. He explained that he had met Whitney and Mariah, and once even got a phone call from Stevie Wonder.
At first, he thought it was a prank and hung up, but Stevie called again. Simon Cowell admitted he couldn’t believe it was really him, and later realized Stevie was a kind person.
When asked about the changes in the music business, Cowell said:
“Oh gosh, so much. I tell you the one thing I think about is that no one ever wanted to be a one hit wonder, right? But now everybody wants to be a one hit wonder. Seriously, it's like everyone's like posting these songs. They're like gimmick songs. You get a lot of money for one record.”
Simon Cowell said he was invested in building people’s careers. Overall, he felt that not much had changed. According to him, the world is always in search of someone determined to persevere. He compared those people with diamonds. Jennifer Hudson added that it was about one’s passion, which she said should always be bigger than fear.
